Austrian pipe maker Peter Matzhold previously worked as a construction engineer. His artistic cell was discovered only a few years ago and undoubtedly led the European pipe making brand. He is very devoted to making pipes, and his work is immaculate in both structure and aesthetics. And his customers are big shots.

Like many pipe makers, Peter Matzhold started his pipe making not as a career, but as a pipe for his own use. Born in 1952, Pete studied architecture in Graz, Austria. After graduating, he worked as a professional architect for several years. During this period, he began to make some pipes, both for his own use as a hobby, and he did not think that people would take his pipes seriously. Once during his visit to Basel, Switzerland, Pete met the owner of a gallery who liked his pipes so much that he insisted that Pete put his pipes on display in the gallery.

Pete was worried about whether his pipe would be accepted, but the gallery display was a great success. This unexpected result led Pete to abandon his job as an architect and specialize in pipe making. The biggest benefit is that he can reduce the pressure of architect work, Pete said that only 10% of the time in architecture is like work, and 90% of the time is like fighting; And in the profession of pipe making, he can spend 90% of his time making pipes and 10% of his time planning and designing. After he made this decision, it took him a long time to gain experience.

Pete's technique of making pipes is entirely self-taught. Pete repaired his pipes when he first started, and in the process of repairing them, he modified them to make them perfect. After tireless efforts, he finally perfected his own style and was recognized by the industry. Gradually, since he (made) was doing a good job, his customers began to customize pipes from him. Later, collectors in Germany and Austria began to take notice of this talented young pipe maker.

Pete still lives in Graz with his wife and two children. Pete walks from home to the studio every day. Pete has all the ingredients he needs to make a pipe, and when he gets inspired, he lets it go, regardless of the time he spends in the studio. For Pete, making pipes is not his job, but more like his life and zest for life.

Pete has a strong principle when it comes to pipe making: he makes pipes that have perfect textures, never need to be filled, are completely unfilled, and are very simple and have clear lines, just like he learned at the School of Architecture. Peter Matzhold makes sandblasted and smooth pipes in grades from A to G, and the two grades A and B are no longer done, C and D are generally sandblasted pipes, and E, F, and G are smooth pipes.
