Founded in 1936 in the United Kingdom, Morphy Richards Co., Ltd. is an enterprise dedicated to the research and development, design, production and sales of Western-style health home appliances such as coffee machines and kettles
In 1936, Donal Morphy and Charles Richards founded Morphy Richards Ltd. in the United Kingdom. Under the influence of the military industry in World War II, Morphy Richards quickly became one of the top small household appliance brands in the UK with its strong technological content. A team of professional British engineers ensures that all products meet the needs of consumers with extremely high quality and unique design, making people's daily household tasks simple and efficient. At present, more than 100 million elite families around the world are enjoying the joy and happiness that Mofei brings to their lives. These are what we crave in the fast-paced city environment. Create a casual life and enjoy a healthy quality. In the increasingly homogeneous urban life, Mofei hopes to use more creative products to make life more healthy and free.
In 1935, products such as irons, toasters and stoves began to enter people's homes. However, these products were still luxury goods at the time, so there was a promising market for well-designed and mass-consumer home appliances. Seeing this opportunity, Donal Morphy partnered with Charles Richards to register a new company on July 8, 1936, producing and selling electrical, radio, and television products.
During the Second World War, the company began to sign contracts with the government for the production of aircraft parts. Since then, the company has expanded into other regions and added new product categories. The company went public in 1947 and soon merged with Tunti-based Astral Corporation, which produced rotary dehydrators and refrigerators.
In the 50s, the production of products far exceeded the expectations of the two founders. In 1954, for example, the first temperature-controlled steam iron appeared, which was equipped with a water reservoir and could support 25 minutes of steam ironing.
In 1960, Donal Morphy sold his stake to EMI, which led to a change of ownership. In 1963, Charles Richards joined GEC and was responsible for its home appliances business. The new managing director, Willis Roxburgh, decided to develop major appliances and opened a second factory in Dundee in 1961.
By 1972, BDA (British Household Appliances Company – a result of the merger of Hotpoint, English Electric, GEC and Morphy Richards) was the UK's largest manufacturer of electrical products, employing 10,700 people and generating an annual turnover of £5,000,000. Across the UK, there are 45,000,000 products that have made their way into people's homes, about 2 pieces each.
Two years later, after merging with the Schreiber Furniture organisation, the BDA Group became even stronger. However, each company operated independently, and in 1975, the company changed its name to Hotpoint.
Throughout the 90s, innovative products continued to emerge. The product range has covered electric irons, kettles, sandwich ovens, coffee machines, fryers, trouser presses, heating trays, cooktops, etc. All these products were the most advanced on the market at the time.
In November 2000 and June 2007, much of the UK was hit by torrential rains. The Morphy Richards plant was flooded in two floods. In the repair and reconstruction of the factory, the company's employees have made great efforts. In 2008, the temporary office in the warehouse became the company's new headquarters. Soon after, the company purchased an office building behind the new headquarters, which was named DEPTH and used for the process design and testing center. From electric irons to kettles, DEPTH had to ensure that the company's products were designed to meet the busy pace of today's lives.
Today, Morphy Richards is embracing the challenges of changing markets, innovating to meet consumer needs and adapting to new retail distributions. Today, more and more households in the UK own more Morphy Richards than any other small appliance brand. Morphy Richards is on track to become an industry leader of the future.
