Richard Drew, a young 3M engineer, invented Scotch ® Fiber Tape. Subsequently, it was named glass tape. For early American department stores, bakers, etc., packaging and sealing became simple. During the Great Depression, tape accompanied people through a period of scarcity - people used tape to do simple household items for patching/repairing.
1932The Scotch ® brand invented the first sturdy and durable tabletop tape cutting base. It is made using cast iron and weighs up to 7 pounds.
In 1939, the Scotch ® brand ushered in its first "snail" – a pictographic, hand-held tape cutting holder. The first "snail" was made using a technical sheet, and a year later, a plastic cutting base was also introduced.
