Axalta in China
Today, we are in an important area of the coatings industry. In China, we have two production plants (located in Changchun and Jiading, Shanghai) to produce high-quality coatings for automakers and thousands of body repair shops across the country. To better serve refinish customers, Axalta has established four refinish training centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing. There, refinish technicians learn how to use our products most effectively and meet their customers' needs. The Shanghai Technology Center is equipped with world-class research facilities. We independently develop and provide technical support services for businesses and customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region. Our five joint ventures produce high-quality powder coating products for our customers.

1984 – DuPont begins operations in China
1988 – Establishment of the first powder coating production plant in China in Huangshan (joint venture)
1990 – Establishment of Powder Coating Division in Chengdu
1995 – Establishment of the Shanghai Training Center
1997 – Herberts acquires Huajia Powder Coatings to form a joint venture with a 56% stake
1998 – Establishment of the second powder coating production plant in China in Chengdu (joint venture)
1999 – DuPont acquires Herberts Huajia
2000 – Establishment of the third powder coating production plant in China in Dongguan (joint venture)
2003 – Establishment of the fourth powder coating production plant in China in Qingpu, Shanghai (joint venture)
2004 – The first automotive coatings production site in China in Changchun was opened
2005 – Establishment of the Shanghai Technical Center
2006 – Expansion of the Shanghai Technical Center to support R&D in the Asia Pacific region
2007 – Establishment of the fifth powder coating production plant in China in Jinan (joint venture)
2008 – Commencement of operation of the second automotive coatings production site in China in Jiading, Shanghai
2008 – Establishment of Powder Coating Technology R&D Center in Huangshan (Joint Venture)
2013 – DuPont Performance Coatings is acquired by Carlyle and renamed Axalta Coating Systems
2013 – Axalta announces a new 25,000-ton facility in Shanghai to produce and supply the world's most environmentally friendly waterborne coatings to a rapidly expanding Chinese automaker.
