Coloplast's history dates back to 1954. Elise Sørensen is a nurse. Her sister Thora had just had an ostomy and she was afraid to go out and worry that her stoma might leak in public. After learning about her sister's situation, Elise envisioned the world's first adhesive pouch.
Aage Louis-Hansen, a civil engineer and producer of plastic products, and his wife, Johanne Louis-Hansen, a nurse by training, produced the pouch based on Elise's idea. Ostomy pouches have helped Thora and thousands of others like her live the life they want.
A simple solution can make a big difference. Today, Coloplast operates in ostomy care, incontinence care, wound and skin care, and urology care. Coloplast has a global presence and employs more than 10,000 people.
