Founded in Norway in 1972, TOMRA Sorting Technologies (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. is a global company specializing in food sorting, recycling sorting and recycling sorting. TOMRA provides sensor-based sorting solutions for industries such as food processing, recycling, and mining, with sorting operations in more than 80 countries around the world. TOMRA entered the Chinese market in 2010 and has set up a number of service outlets across the country.
In 1972, at the request of a local store, the Norwegian brothers Petter Planke and Tore Planke invented an empty beverage bottle recycling machine, which opened up sales throughout Norway. This is the starting point for the TOMRA Group. Later, TOMRA's automatic beverage bottle recycling machines were also widely welcomed in other European countries and the American market.
In the 90s, TOMRA expanded its business chain to include the transportation, processing, recycling and trading of empty beverage bottles, with operations in 46 countries and regions. In the 21st century, TOMRA has further expanded its strategic layout and business areas, successively acquired several companies engaged in the development of cutting-edge sorting technologies such as TITECH, Orwak, Commodas and Ultrasort in Germany, and began to get involved in the sorting of mixed waste, mixed metals and minerals, further consolidating the product chain in the field of resource recovery and environmental protection.
With the experience and accumulation in the sorting industry, TOMRA has further expanded the application of sorting technology to the food industry, and has acquired two companies, Odenberg in Ireland and BEST Sorting in Belgium, becoming a global leader in the field of food sorting. In 2017, TOMRA acquired Compac and BBC Technologies, two New Zealand-based companies engaged in the development of cutting-edge fruit sorting and grading technologies, to achieve a broad involvement in the food sector.
TOMRA entered the Chinese market in 2010 and incorporated TOMRA Sorting Technologies (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. Today, it has completed the layout of three major businesses in China, in addition to the local R&D, sales and service teams, and a modern production base, with a total of more than 300 local employees. TOMRA currently has three major businesses in China – Food Sorting, Resource Recycling and Sorting, and Beverage Bottle Recycling Machines.
TOMRA's subsidiary in China is located in the beautiful coastal city of Xiamen, with two state-of-the-art equipment testing centers in Xiamen, one for the food business and the other for the recycling business. Xiamen is also an R&D center in China and a global supply center. In addition, TOMRA has set up a number of service outlets across the country, including Beijing, Qingdao, Chengdu, Kunming, Lanzhou, Taiwan and other places, to respond to customer needs across the country.
In 2015, TOMRA's automatic bottle return machine business also established a cooperative relationship with Yingchuang Recycling, and jointly established two joint ventures in Beijing and Xiamen to engage in local R&D, operation and sales of beverage bottle intelligent recycling machines. TOMRA has a large, modern production site in Kunshan, providing access to fresh fruit grading and sorting equipment for the global market, as well as the assembly of local production equipment in China.
