New Oriental Education & Technology Group, established on November 16, 1993 as Beijing New Oriental School, is a large-scale comprehensive education and technology group integrating education and training, educational product research and development, and educational services. New Oriental Education & Technology Group was successfully listed on the New York Stock Exchange on September 7, 2006, becoming the first overseas listed education and training institution in Chinese mainland.
As of May 31, 2014, New Oriental has set up 56 schools, 31 bookstores and 703 learning centers in 50 cities across the country. Since its establishment, New Oriental has accumulated nearly 20 million face-to-face students.
History
1993 Beijing New Oriental School was established.
1996 The first New Oriental Bookstore was born.
2000 New Oriental School was established in Shanghai and Guangzhou. In December, New Oriental Education Online was founded and officially entered the field of distance education.
In 2001, New Oriental Education & Technology Group was established.
In 2002, New Oriental Schools in Wuhan, Tianjin, Xi'an and Nanjing were established to establish elite English learning centers to get close to the high-end English training market. In June, New Oriental invested 320 million yuan to build Beijing New Oriental Yangzhou Foreign Chinese School.
In 2003, New Oriental Schools were established in Shenyang, Chongqing, Chengdu and Shenzhen. In May, New Oriental Dayu Culture Communication Co., Ltd. was established, and New Oriental entered the field of books, periodicals and magazines.
2004 New Oriental POP Children's English brand was born. In February, Beijing New Oriental Future Overseas Consulting Co., Ltd. was established to comprehensively carry out overseas study consulting and other related businesses.
In 2005, New Oriental Schools in Hangzhou, Changsha, Harbin, Jinan, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, Changchun and Xiangfan were established successively. In March, Beijing New Oriental Xuncheng Network Technology Co., Ltd. was established, New Oriental Online Education was reorganized, and in October, New Oriental Education and Technology Group settled in the New Oriental Headquarters Building located in the core area of Zhongguancun, Beijing.
In 2006, New Oriental Schools were established in Fuzhou, Hefei, Kunming, Shijiazhuang, Suzhou, Zhuzhou, Yichang, Anshan, Foshan and other places. On September 7, New Oriental was successfully listed on the New York Stock Exchange, becoming the first educational institution in Chinese mainland to be listed in the United States. In September, New Oriental Big Dipper Training School was established, and New Oriental entered the field of vocational certification training.
In 2007, New Oriental Schools were established in Nanchang, Wuxi, Jingzhou and Dalian. In March, New Oriental Preschool Education Development Center (Beijing New Oriental Mantianxing Education Consulting Co., Ltd.) was established. In August, New Oriental invested 50 million yuan to set up the "May Fourth Reward Fund for Chinese College Students, New Oriental Self-improvement Fund". In November, the Project Department of New Oriental International High School was officially established.
In 2008, New Oriental Schools were established in Lanzhou, Xiamen, Qingdao, Nanning, Huangshi, Ningbo and other places. In May, after the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan, New Oriental donated 20 million yuan and organized volunteers to serve in the disaster area. In August, New Oriental and the Central Committee of the Democratic League jointly launched the "Candlelight Action: New Oriental Teachers' Social Responsibility Tour". In October, New Oriental Family Education Research and Guidance Center was established.
In March 2009, New Oriental School was established in Xuzhou. In November, the National Promotion and Management Center of New Oriental Youneng Middle School Education was established. In December, New Oriental became the "Language Training Partner of Urban Civilization Volunteers at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo", providing language training for 300,000 World Expo City Civilization Volunteers.
In 2010, New Oriental School was established in Xiangtan, Zhenjiang, Luoyang, Nantong and other places. In July, Beijing Changping Foreign Chinese School was established.
In 2011, New Oriental successively opened New Oriental Schools in Jilin, Guiyang, Hohhot, Tangshan, Urumqi and other places. On April 15, New Oriental Online was launched.
In June, New Oriental and Mag-Hee Education Group of the United States jointly invested in the establishment of Megson International Education.
In September, New Oriental's "Believe in the Future" national public welfare lecture tour was launched, and 250,000 people from more than 260 colleges and universities in 32 cities attended the event.

In June, Beijing Wokaide International Travel Co., Ltd. was formally established.
In September 2013, Yu Minhong became the chairman of Gengdan College, and New Oriental indirectly entered the field of private university education.
