Founded on September 29, 2007, CIC is a wholly state-owned company established in accordance with the Company Law of the People's Republic of China with the aim of diversifying the country's foreign exchange funds and maximizing shareholders' equity within acceptable risks. The company is headquartered in Beijing with a registered capital of 200 billion US dollars.
CIC has three subsidiaries, namely CIC International Limited (CIC International), CIC Overseas Direct Investment Co., Ltd. (CIC Overseas) and Central Huijin Investment Co., Ltd. (Central Huijin).
CIC's outbound investment and management business is undertaken by CIC International and CIC Overseas, respectively. Both CIC International and CIC Overseas adhere to a market-oriented, commercial, professional and international mode of operation.
CIC International was established in September 2011 to undertake all of CIC's outbound investment and management business at that time. CIC International invests in public equity and bonds, hedge funds, multi-asset and real estate, and pan-industry private equity (including private credit) funds.
Established in January 2015, CIC Overseas is CIC's OFDI business platform, providing direct investment and multilateral and bilateral fund management.
In accordance with the authorization of the State Council, Central Huijin makes equity investments in key state-owned financial enterprises, and exercises the rights and obligations of investors on behalf of the state in accordance with the law on behalf of the state to the extent of the capital contribution, so as to maintain and increase the value of state-owned financial assets. Central Huijin does not carry out any other commercial business activities, and does not interfere in the daily business activities of key state-owned financial enterprises in which it controls and participates in shares.
Strict "firewall" measures are in place between CIC International and CIC Overseas's overseas business, as well as between Central Huijin's domestic business.
