Founded in 1848 as the Prudential Investment, Loan, and Assurance Company, Prudential Group provides retail financial services and fund administration services in selected markets such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Asia and continental Europe. Since its founding, Prudential has grown rapidly, and in the early 1890s, it became the largest life insurance company in the United Kingdom, providing comprehensive protection to the British people, and is still at the top of the list. In the twenties, Prudential expanded its business to Asia, Europe, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, with a worldwide service network.
In 1986, the Group acquired Jackson National Life, Inc., which today is one of the top five annuity insurance companies in the United States. In 1996, the Group was granted permission to conduct a personal banking business in London, and in 1997 it acquired Scottish Amicable.
