Chinese People's Insurance Company Co., Ltd., the predecessor of Chinese People's Insurance Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Chinese People's Insurance), was established on October 20, 1949 at No. 108, Minxiang, Xijiao, Beijing, with the approval of the Government Council of the People's Republic of China. As the founder and pioneer of the insurance industry in New China, in the course of more than 60 years of reform and development, it has always adhered to the mission of "people's insurance and serving the people", actively fulfilled its corporate social responsibility, and provided all-round and high-quality insurance protection and services to serve economic and social development and protect the national economy and people's livelihood, creating the glory of New China's national insurance industry.

As a long-established insurance company in China, it has undergone several major changes. According to the decision of the State Council, the People's Bank of China approved the transformation of the Chinese People's Insurance Company into the Chinese People's Insurance (Group) Company in 1996, and established three insurance subsidiaries in the mainland: China Insurance Property Insurance Co., Ltd., China Insurance Life Insurance Co., Ltd., and China Insurance Reinsurance Co., Ltd. In 1998, according to the approval of the State Council, Chinese People's Insurance (Group) Company was further reorganized, and China Insurance Property Insurance Co., Ltd. became a first-class legal person, inheriting the brand of Chinese People's Insurance Company and using the name of Chinese People's Insurance Company. In July 2003, with the consent of the State Council and the approval of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, Chinese People's Insurance Company initiated the establishment of Chinese People's Property Insurance Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Chinese Insurance Holding Company. In the same year, Chinese Insurance Holdings initiated the establishment of Chinese Asset Management Co., Ltd., the first insurance asset management company in China, and changed its name to Chinese Asset Management Co., Ltd. in 2016. In June 2007, in order to uphold the history and brand, Chinese Insurance Holding Company was renamed as Chinese People's Insurance Group Company. In September 2009, Chinese People's Insurance Group Corporation was successfully restructured into Chinese People's Insurance Group Co., Ltd., realizing a major transformation from a traditional state-owned enterprise to a modern state-controlled financial and insurance group. On December 7, 2012, Chinese People's Insurance Group Co., Ltd. completed the H-share listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, creating a precedent for the overall overseas listing of China Management Insurance Group.

At present, Chinese People's Insurance has more than 10 professional subsidiaries, including Chinese People's Property Insurance Co., Ltd., Chinese Insurance Asset Management Co., Ltd., Chinese People's Health Insurance Co., Ltd., Chinese Life Insurance Co., Ltd., PICC Investment Holdings Co., Ltd., PICC Capital Investment Management Co., Ltd., PICC Financial Services Co., Ltd., PICC Reinsurance Co., Ltd., Chinese Pension Insurance Co., Ltd., Chinese People's Insurance (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., etc. The main business scope covers the whole insurance industry chain such as property insurance, liability insurance, life insurance, reinsurance, pension insurance, etc., and plays the role of the main channel of the industry in the policy business fields such as agricultural insurance and social medical insurance, and provides asset management, pension management and other non-insurance financial services.

Chinese Property & Casualty Insurance Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Chinese People's Insurance Company, was successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2003, becoming the "first share" of a large state-owned financial enterprise in Chinese mainland to be listed overseas, and the largest non-life insurance public company in Asia. Its subsidiary, Chinese People's Health Insurance Co., Ltd., is the first professional health insurance company in China, committed to providing high-quality and efficient health protection and health management services for the majority of people in China. Since its establishment in 2005, Chinese Life Insurance Co., Ltd. has become a company with outstanding growth value in the domestic life insurance market. Chinese Asset Management Co., Ltd. is the first insurance asset management company in China, taking the lead in introducing overseas strategic investors in the industry, pioneering the tripartite operation mode of entrustment, trusteeship and trusteeship, and carefully building a "leading domestic and international first-class comprehensive investment and wealth management company".

In recent years, with its leading technology and comprehensive strength, Chinese People's Insurance has successively become an insurance partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, successfully completing the important task of escorting the three major events. Since being listed in the Fortune 500 in 2010, Chinese People's Insurance has continued to improve its ranking, and in 2017, it ranked 114th in the "Global 500" with an annual operating income of US$66.73 billion, demonstrating the Group's strong overall comprehensive strength.
