The history of Intertek can be traced back to the establishment of Caleb Brett in the late 19th century by Caleb Brett and the establishment of the Electric Light Testing Bureau, later known as the Electrical Testing Laboratory (ETL) by the great American inventor Thomas Edison. In 1989, Intertek Group established a joint venture in Shenzhen, China.
