UPM logo

UPM (China) Co., Ltd., founded in 1899 in Finland, is the world's leading producer of paper and paper products, with the world's largest magazine paper production capacity, and a comprehensive enterprise integrating the sales of paper, label materials, plywood, sawn wood and pulp products, and biofuels

UPM has a long history of forest industry in Finland. The Group's first mechanical pulp, paper mill and sawmill began operation in the early 70s of the 19th century. Pulp production began in the 80s of the 19th century, paper processing began in the 20s of the 20th century, and plywood production was carried out in the following decade.

UPM's oldest factory, Papeteries de Docelles, is located in northeastern France. At the end of the 15th century, the factory began to produce high-quality paper by hand. The mill introduced its first paper machine in the thirties of the 19th century.

In the autumn of 1995, the Kymmene Group, Repola Ltd. and its subsidiary, United Paper Mills Ltd., merged and UPM was founded. The new company was named UPM and began operations on May 1, 1996.

As a leader in the new forest industry, UPM is driven by innovation and leading the new bio-forest industry towards a sustainable future.

UPM has six separate business areas: UPM Biorefining, UPM Energy, UPM Raflatac, UPM Specialty Paper, UPM Europe & North America Paper and UPM Plywood. The raw materials used to produce our products are responsibly sourced and renewable, replacing non-renewable fossil raw materials.

Drawing on its extensive expertise and strong position in the value chain of forest biomass sourcing and processing, UPM continues to develop innovative, sustainable businesses – biofuels, biocomposites and biochemical fuels.
