Founded in Germany in 1925, the world-famous saxophone brand was acquired by the veteran musical instrument manufacturer Buffet in 2010

Julius Keilwerth. Calvos was founded in 1925 in what is now the Czech Republic. After the Second World War, the company moved to its current headquarters in Nauheim, near Frankfurt, Germany.

The real rise of the Calvos brand began in 1986, when jazz saxophonist Peter Ponzol was hired as a consultant to improve and redesign the Keilwerth saxophone for the jazz style. In the late 80's, Keilwerth launched its SX90R series and received praise from many jazz musicians such as Brandford Marsail, Courtney Pine, Emie Watts, James Moody, Ron Holloway, Mike Smith.
