Hettich was founded in 1888 in the Black Forest of Germany by Karl Brown. Hettich started out as a small company that produced parts for cuckoo clocks. In 1930, the family's successor founded a new company in eastern Westphalia, the center of German furniture and kitchen cabinet industrial manufacturing. From 1966 onwards, the company's headquarters were moved to Kirchlengern. To this day, Hettich is still a family business.

There are 38 subsidiaries worldwide. 13 production bases; Seven of them are based in Germany and only one in Asia is in Zhuhai, China.
