Motech was founded in 1981 under the name of "Meter International Corporation", which started with the design and production of advanced measuring instruments, and then devoted itself to the solar photovoltaic industry, and in 1997, it established the Optoelectronic Division, which became the earliest solar cell manufacturer in Taiwan, and the original Measuring Instrument Division was called the Instrument Division. In response to the expansion of the company's business territory, Motech changed its English name from Meter International Corporation to Motech Industries Inc.

On December 20, 2006, Motech was certified for both the ISO14001 Environmental Management System and the OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, making it the first solar cell manufacturing company in Taiwan to achieve both certifications.
On January 5, 2009, Motech passed the TOSHMS Taiwan Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification.
With a total output of 360MW in 2009, Motech is the world's leading solar cell manufacturer. Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. On December 31, 2006, Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mody, was established to further consolidate and expand the Chinese mainland market, Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. is located in the renewable energy industrial base of Kunshan High-tech Zone, Jiangsu Province. Ground was broken in March 2007 and successfully completed and put into operation in September 2008. At the end of 2009, the production capacity reached 130MW.
In 2010, Motech reached the milestone of 1GW of total solar cell capacity. In the same year, the company began to launch high-efficiency module production lines in the United States, Japan and Chinese mainland, so that the company's customers can enjoy local intimate service and excellent cost advantages no matter where they are in the world. In addition, with the advantage of vertical integration, Motech can effectively monitor the quality control at every stage of the upstream silicon feedstock, solar cell, module and rectifier manufacturing process.
After the completion of the merger with Lianjing in 2015, the production capacity will jump to 3GW, making it the leading professional solar cell manufacturer in Taiwan and the world. In August of the same year, the subsidiary, Motech (Suzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd., invested in the establishment of a new company, Motech (Xuzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. At the end of 2015, the company invested in the establishment of a new solar module company in the Ma'anshan Economic and Technological Development Zone to expand Motech's production capacity and overall economic scale in mainland China to enhance its competitiveness.
