Founded in 2005 in China, LDK Solar High Technology Co., Ltd. is currently a leading solar wafer producer and a leading manufacturer of high-purity polysilicon and solar modules. LDK Solar is a vertically integrated manufacturer and supplier of photovoltaic products with more than 21,900 employees worldwide. LDK Solar manufactures and sells polycrystalline and monocrystalline wafers to solar cell and module manufacturers. Solar wafers are the main raw material for the production of solar cells, which are able to convert solar energy into electricity. The company also sells solar materials, including silicon ingots, and other chemicals used in the production of polysilicon and solar wafers, and provides solar wafer processing services.

In 2009, LDK Solar expanded the scope of its vertically integrated strategy and began selling solar modules to developers, distributors and system integrators. In February 2010, the company acquired Best Solar's silicon module production plant in order to increase its in-house production capacity.

As part of its vertical integration strategy, the company has built a polysilicon production plant with two polysilicon production facilities near its wafer production plant in Xinyu, Jiangxi Province. The first facility is planned to have an annual production capacity of 3,000 metric tons, while the second production facility has three separate 5,000-metric ton production lines with a planned annual production capacity of 15,000 metric tons. Combining these two polysilicon production facilities, LDK Solar's production capacity is expected to reach 18,000 metric tons by the end of 2011.
