Syngenta Biotechnology (China) Co., Ltd., one of the top ten brands of pesticides and insecticides, is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, and was established in 2000 by the merger of Novartis and Jielikang to improve crop cultivation methods and solutions
Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, Syngenta is one of the world's leading agricultural companies that helps farmers make more efficient use of existing resources to improve global food security. Our 28,000 employees in more than 90 countries are committed to improving crop cultivation through world-class technology and innovative crop solutions. We pledge to save degraded farmland, improve biodiversity and thrive rural communities.
On November 13, 2000, Novartis and Zeliconia merged their agriculture divisions to form Syngenta, the first global group focused on agriculture.
Syngenta inherits the strengths and traditions of both companies, but at the same time, it has its own distinct personality. Our name, Syngenta, is made up of two different roots. "Syn" is derived from the Greek word and stands for cooperation, gathering, integration, gathering strength. "Genta" is associated with humans and individuals, and comes from the Latin word "gens", which means people and communities. Therefore, Syngenta means "bringing people together". Although Syngenta is a young company, it has an industry tradition that dates back nearly 250 years. We are proud that these traditions and milestones have helped us become the global leader we are today.
With a total investment of more than US$360 million, Syngenta has five wholly-owned enterprises, one joint venture, one cooperative and multiple branches in China, and employs more than 2,000 people.
Syngenta has the broadest product portfolio in the industry, focusing on eight core crops: rice, corn, soybeans, grains, field crops, specialty crops, vegetables, and sugarcane, including plant protection, seed coatings, seeds, and traits. Syngenta Lawn & Horticulture provides comprehensive plant protection and sanitation solutions to flower growers, golf course managers and garden care companies, disease control agencies, pesticide companies and consumers.
