As one of the central urban areas of Shanghai, Putuo is rated as the district with the worst educational resources. However, Pei Jia, the first echelon private primary school in Putuo District, is bilingual, which is enough to rank among the top 20 private schools in Shanghai.
Founded in 2003, the school is a 12-year school. It has a small theater, a data and information center, a plastic runway playground, a complete campus network and electronic classrooms, and provides accommodation and school bus services for some students. By 2017, there were 130 full-time teachers in Peijia Bilingual Primary and Secondary School, of which 62% were teachers with intermediate and senior professional titles, and 93% were teachers with bachelor's degree or above.
Peijia Bilingual recruits first-choice students from all over the city. According to the collation of third-party educational information institutions, the key points of the interviews over the years include: (1) mathematics: the proportion is not large, in 2016 it is divided into things and multiples, puzzles, and logic problems, and in 2015, the figures are investigated to find rules and visual points, mainly thinking logic and spatial imagination ability; (2) English: Interview key subjects, nursery rhyme singing, word and sentence reading must be tested every year, and the possibility of self-introduction is also very high; (3) Language: The type is more complex, in 2016, it was to make up stories and write names, and in 2015, it was to memorize poems, listen to stories, discuss and answer questions, mainly for the type of talking by looking at pictures; (4) Hands-on ability: paper-cutting, origami and other compulsory tests every year, in 2016 the test of racket, skipping rope, according to the instructions to do the action, in 2015 the test of one-legged jumping, baseball exercises, mainly children's imitation, hands-on ability.
In the direction of further education, about 50% of the school's students will go directly to the junior high school, and the junior high school can rank in the top three in Putuo District; Other students will be admitted to private or public special classes in other districts, and there are not a few who choose to go abroad.
Pei Jia's curriculum is not cramming education, it is much richer than public schools. In addition, because most of the students choose to go directly to the junior high school, the school does not have a distinction between key classes and ordinary classes, and compared with Jinzhou in the same district, the overall atmosphere is more relaxed and happy.
After years of exploration and development, the school's bilingual teaching has developed a unique "Bilingual Teaching Experimental Plan", and has also compiled a number of school-based bilingual teaching materials for students to use. At the primary level, 12 subjects, such as art, music and geography in secondary school, are taught in both languages, and are divided into basic courses, extended courses and research-based courses. In addition to classroom teaching, the school's bilingual features are also applied to practice, such as bilingual corners, bilingual vending practices, etc.
In terms of homework, all graduates of Peijia Primary School have to do a graduation thesis, and the presentation of results and thesis defense at the end of each semester have also become a tradition, but the overall learning intensity is not as good as that of other private schools. Its students can master about 1,000 English words in the third grade, and the fifth grade students can communicate with foreign teachers in English. Extended courses include wind music, folk music, chorus, dance, baseball, martial arts, taekwondo, physical fitness, etc.
