Toyota Previa 400,000 MPV product review

The Toyota Previa was launched in 1990 and was not officially introduced to China until 2000. Due to its appearance, Previa has always been known as the "bullet" or "overlord".

At present, the 2012 Previa is still on sale in the Chinese market, and there are two displacements of 2.4L and 3.5L. The 2.4-liter Previa is powered by Camry's VVT-i 16-valve 4-cylinder inline DOHC engine, while the 3.5-liter V6 engine is powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 engine as the Lexus ES350. The Previa's suspension maintains the passenger's sitting position with more timely feedback, rather than softening it for comfort. Compared with the Honda Odyssey, the benchmark for handling in the same class, the Previa naturally can't bring the same lively driving experience, but the gearbox's +/- function can easily control the engine speed within the output range, so even if the displacement is only 2.4L, it is not difficult to run recklessly once in a while. This generation of Previa has been slow to launch a more road-adaptable four-wheel drive version, which has caused some regret in the hearts of Chinese consumers.

In 2016, the Previa underwent a facelift, with the main aim of adding popular technology features, including smart key, reversing radar, push-button start, HID headlights, etc., while the two near-perfect engines will remain in service. The steering wheel and center console are still modeled after the Camry. Compared to its competitors in the same class, the facelifted Previa center console is not impressive, and its focus is on making all drivers feel the "human atmosphere" of Toyota's design philosophy. The two independently adjustable "boss seats" in the middle row are the highest places to enjoy the whole car. There is a sunroof overhead, but unfortunately the glass cannot be opened, and there is a track under the seat that can move back and forth, plus the retractable foot cushion function, which can put the entire seat in a near-lying state, and the comfort level is close to that of the Lexus LS460L. In addition, the middle row seats can be moved laterally is also a special design, which can not only free up the center aisle to facilitate the entry and exit of third-row passengers, but also allow passengers with more "blessed" postures to sit easily.

"A Toyota that doesn't break" is more than just a joke. Since most of the technical details of the Previa come from the Camry and Lexus ES, after ten years of driving, the performance of its engine, gearbox and other core components is still no different from the new car, neither high failure nor functional decline, so it is logical that the Previa has become a god car.

In terms of safety, although this generation of the Previa did not participate in any kind of crash testing, no one would think that it would be lacking in passenger protection. The 2016 facelift of the Previa will be enhanced with the addition of more active safety features.
