Volkswagen Touran L 200,000 MPV product evaluation

The Touran model was launched in 2003 and hasn't really been replaced for more than a decade. Launched in 2016, the Touran L is the first true replacement car in more than a decade, featuring the latest MQB modular platform, as well as a new look in technology features and interior.
 
The Touran L in the Chinese market has a total of 1.4T and 1.8T displacement engines, and in the 100-kilometer acceleration test, the former is only less than half a second slower than the latter, and the driving pleasure brought by the two power outputs is not much different. It's not much fun, but the change in the center of gravity of the whole car when cornering is closer to that of a sedan. The steering of the Touran L has also been retuned, and the effect is obvious, so that many women can also drive this MPV, but the fly in the ointment is that the throttle feedback of the Touran L is slower and not linear enough, and this shortcoming is especially obvious on congested roads.
 
The Touran L inherits the design language of the Volkswagen family, but it still looks unassuming, and it has abandoned the bread shape of its predecessor to look like a completely enlarged version of the Golf. The standard two-row five-seater is also very surprising, and it feels like Volkswagen has created a "two-row five-seater MPV" model. Due to its size, the legroom of the Touran's second-row seats is naturally unquestionable, and the higher roof height can also bring a great sense of openness, but its third-row seats are even more awkward than the third-row of the Toyota Yizhi, which is actually better regarded as an ordinary hatchback.
 
The mid-row seats on the five-seater version of the Touran L are divided into three equal parts like those on the seven-seater version. The advantage of the triad is that when there are three people in the back, the comfort of every passenger in the middle is guaranteed. In fact, the more important point is that for a seven-seater car, the individual seats are easier to fold, allowing passengers to get in and out of the third row from both sides. However, the owner of the five-seater version does not experience this convenience, but has to bear the problems caused by it, because it is a third, the backrest of each seat in the rear row is relatively narrow, and tall people sit awkwardly. In addition, the seats of the Touran L are on the stiff side, and the comfort is not good.
 
The easiest thing to beat the Volkswagen family is not its competitors, but the quality of its own cars. The Volkswagen Touran was not spared. In a 2015 survey by the well-known British car magazine "Auto Express", the old Touran's car-making technology ranked 168th, and the top three in Polo and Passat.
 
The new generation of Touran has a complete set of technological functions, such as automatic parking, collision warning, and ACC intelligent cruise control, but they are basically optional. In 2015, the Volkswagen Touran received a five-star safety rating in the E-NCAP crash test, and with a wide range of safety packages, the Touran can be recognized as a safe enough car.
