In terms of powertrain, the engine and transmission are reversely developed by BYD, the engine model is BYD476ZQA, and the transmission is available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed dry dual-clutch transmission, and the dual-clutch transmission model is 6DT25. BYD476ZQA is BYD's reverse Volkswagen EA211 that 1.4T turbocharged engine was developed, but the cast iron block was changed to an all-aluminum cylinder block, and the rest of the variable valve timing and in-cylinder direct injection are also the current mainstream technologies.
The 6DT25 is reversed from Volkswagen's DQ200, but the 7-speed dry dual-clutch is changed to a 6-speed. Reverse development of the engine, at present, it seems that reliability is not the main problem, while the reverse development of the gearbox has a more serious reliability problem, because the early failure rate of the DQ200 is quite high, and the reverse development of the gearbox problem will only be more serious. In addition to the frustration and abnormal noise, the high incidence of 6DT25 has also had the problem of power loss, that is, the vehicle lacks the base gear, and the gear has been maintained at 5 gears, and there is no obvious improvement in updating the TCU.
In everyday driving, there are obvious flaws in the power matching of the Song Max, and most of the flaws can be easily reproduced. Song Max's gearbox program takes smoothness as the highest priority, so the enthusiasm for upshifting and downshifting is very low, and after the power demand is given, it will only drop one gear at most, and the basic operation of lowering a few gears will basically not appear. In manual mode, the shift speed is not much faster, and the action of switching gears is often ignored by the transmission protector, and even if you can downshift, the reaction is already much slower.
Reducing the shift speed in exchange for ride is a regular operation of a dual-clutch transmission, but it has not improved much on the Song Max, because in addition to power viscosity, there are also problems with engine turbo intervention and non-linear power delivery. Song Max's throttle response is slow overall, after stepping on the throttle, the power will come out after about 1 second, even if you release it after stepping on the throttle, the power will still come out, and when slowing down at low speed in the city, you need to step on the accelerator and brake frequently, and the fuel consumption is therefore much higher. The turbo starts to intervene at around 1700 rpm, and there will be a sudden burst of power with obvious action. When fixing the throttle opening, the power delivery is also not linear, and it is possible that there is a problem with the shift logic, and there is a confusion between upshifting and pulling the rpm.
In the MPV model, there is generally no too good handling, as long as the steering is more comfortable, but the steering feel of Song Max is different from the mainstream tuning method, it is hydraulic power steering, but the damping feeling is very strong at low speed, and it becomes very light at high speed, and it obviously lacks a sense of center when driving at high speed, which has a greater negative impact on driving safety.
Song Max's suspension tuning is generally stiff, especially the rear torsion beam, which can bring more controllable roll, but the driving comfort will be relatively poor, and the situation of full load will be better than that of no load. The biggest disadvantage in terms of quietness is wind noise, due to the large impact area, as long as the speed is slightly higher, the wind noise will be generated near the front windshield and the A-pillar, and the other sound source is the engine, occasionally some high-frequency noise into the cabin.
The interior of the Song Max also has obvious traces of imitation, with seat adjustment, dual paddles on the left side of the steering wheel, and light controls all in line with Mercedes-Benz. The size of the central control touch screen of the low-end model is slightly smaller, and the overall appearance is more harmonious, while the medium-high configuration model will be equipped with a large touch screen, which is a bit of Tesla, which is in line with the preferences of some consumers, but the use experience is not good, the touch screen is not very handy, the response is relatively slow, and the air conditioning control is integrated in the touch screen, which is not too convenient. There will be obvious peculiar smell in some Song Max's cabins, which will affect the riding experience of the occupants, so please pay more attention.
In this class, some models belong to compact seven-seater cars, that is, the third row can only be used for emergencies, Song Max's third row is exactly like this, but it is more serious, 170cm tall will sit up to the knees, the sitting posture is also very low, the seat back is very straight, and it can only cope with short-distance travel.
The current Song Max has a six-seat version and a seven-seat version, from the second row of riding experience alone, it is recommended to buy a six-seat version, at least two independent seats, although the waist is more prominent, which will lead to insufficient thigh support, but the seat shape is a little more normal than the seven-seat version, the second row of cushions and backrests of the seven-seat version are very flat, the seat cushions are very short, the backrest is very straight, the knee room is not too abundant, and the ride experience is relatively poor.
Song Max's engine and gearbox are the product of reverse development, and the engine will have a certain chance of abnormal noise and shaking, and this gearbox has a poor reputation in terms of reliability, so it is recommended to choose carefully.
