In terms of appearance, it is shaped like an SUV, but the ground clearance is only the level of a sedan, although there are 7 seats, but the front of the car is too long, and the third row is too small compared with MPV, which can only be used for emergency use, and most of them exist in the form of 5-seat sedans every day.
The size of Volando is very reminiscent of Buick's previous GL6, and in fact, Volando uses the same PATAC K platform as GL6, and the previous models of this platform are all compact cars, such as Ford's Forrest, Buick's Excelle, etc., with this platform to build a 7-seater car, the space in the third row will be relatively small.
The Volando has only one powertrain, a 1.3T three-cylinder turbocharged engine codenamed LI6, paired with a DSS 6-speed automatic manual transmission, which is also the same as the GL6. The peak output of this LI6 engine is 163 horsepower, the maximum torque is 230 Nm, and the 000 acceleration score can run into 10 seconds, which will not be enough in daily driving, but the speed will often be maintained in the range of about 2000 rpm, which is relatively high.
Everyone is more concerned about the shaking problem of the three-cylinder engine, the general engine, you open the engine cover to see, it is still very shaky, but after the treatment of engine suspension and firewall sound insulation, in the case of low load, there will be no obvious feeling, but in the higher speed range, or when starting, you will still feel a little shaking.
GM's DSS 6AT shift strategy on Volando will be more aggressive, and the ride and reaction speed are still good, but the movement of the shift is slightly larger, and there will be an obvious break point in the gear shift. Compared to the 6AT of other manufacturers, GM's 6AT is expected to be slightly less reliable.
The overall suspension tuning of the Volando is soft, and there will be obvious roll in high-speed line changes or corners, which does not match its sporty appearance, but is more suitable for daily travel and high-speed cruise, and is a comfortable family car. In terms of sound insulation, more materials are used, and the overall sound insulation level is qualified, but in the high speed range, the sound of the engine will come in, deliberately forming a sense of movement.
The interior of the Volandor will use a lot of hard plastic, but this is understandable given its price range, and to compensate for the lack of materials, the Volando has adopted a sportier design with more details, at least not in terms of appearance. Like the GL6, the steering wheel can only be adjusted up and down, not back and forth, which is slightly worse for the driver's body shape. This generation of Volando also uses storage space as a selling point, claiming that there are 39 storage spaces in the car, except for the third row, there will always be a few places to put things nearby after getting into the car.
The front and rear adjustment of the second row of seats is very large, in the case of not using the third row, the space in the second row is very abundant, you can easily stilt your legs, and the backrest of the seat also has a large adjustment range, but there is no headrest in the middle of the second row, and the seat cushion is high and hard, so you can't ride for a long time.
The third row can sit people, but it is relatively reluctant, not to mention comfortable, the cushion itself is very thin, the backrest is relatively straight, the backrest of the second row is a block, the back is a closed space, there is no window that can be opened on the left and right, only two small glass, the sense of depression is relatively strong.
In the case of three full rows, the trunk space is not large, you can only put down the last row if you want space, the height and depth after folding down are very ideal, and the second row of seats also supports folding, after the back two rows of seats are all folded down, the space can be compared with the micro surface.
Volando has not yet participated in China's C-NCAP test, but the GL6 of the same platform has participated and received a 5-star rating, and the safety is relatively optimistic.
