Buick GL6 150,000 MPV product evaluation

The Buick GL6 is a compact 6-seater MPV, and from the naming point of view, it is positioned below the GL8, aiming at the lower-level MPV market. If the GL8 is a business MPV, then the GL6 is a family MPV. When you see the 6-seater, there is also a 6-seater Honda Jed in this class, and the two are also relatively direct competitors.

GL6 is built on the universal PATAC K platform. The PATAC K platform was developed by GM for the Chinese market, and many of its compact cars are produced on this platform, such as the Chevrolet Corvoz, Buick Excelle and Buick GL6.

The GL6 is powered by a 1.3-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine codenamed LI6 mated to a DSS 6-speed automatic manual transmission. The peak output of this LI6 engine is 163 horsepower, the maximum torque is 230 Nm, and the zero hundred acceleration score can run into 10 seconds.

The jitter problem of the three-cylinder engine has always been a concern to everyone, and its performance on the GL6 should be divided into several working conditions, when it is in P gear, and when it is cruising at high speed, the smoothness and stability of the whole driving are very good, because in both cases, the load of the engine is relatively small. When you drive a little harder, the revs are pulled up, or your car is relatively full, due to the heavy load on the engine, there will be a situation of shaking. In addition, there is a working condition with poor driving quality, that is, when the urban area is congested, it will tremble during the period of time when the speed is raised from idling.

Buick GL6 DSS 6AT looks like a new gearbox, but in fact it is only the previous GF6 with an automatic start-stop function, the ride in the new car stage is relatively guaranteed, but the expected reliability is relatively not ideal, consumers who are entangled in this can take a look at the 6-seat version of the Jed.

Regarding GL6's sound insulation and shock filtration, it belongs to the normal level of Buick in recent years, because some of the new cars launched by Buick in recent years are no longer selling with sound insulation and shock filtration, such as Regal, GL6's sound insulation and shock filtration belong to this kind of ordinary level, the front row has to bear the engine noise, the middle and rear rows have to accept wind noise and tire noise, and the shock absorption performance of the rear suspension is relatively average.

As a 6-seater car, although the third row of the GL6 is not as large as the traditional MPV, it is still much better than many seven-seater SUVs, at least not at the level of emergency use, and can be ridden for a period of time. The seats in the second row can be adjusted back and forth, and the backrest can also be adjusted at an angle, but the seat cushions are relatively stiff, and the armrests are positioned a little higher, which is not very scientific. For an MPV, it is supposed to be possible to enter the third row from the middle aisle of the middle row, but the GL6 is not wide enough to move out of the second row and enter the third row. There are no major problems with the seats in the driving position, but the steering wheel can only be adjusted up and down, which is a pity.

GL6 is still more suitable for four people in daily use, because in the case of 6 people traveling, the trunk space is better than nothing, 5 people can fold a rear seat, but this trunk space is not as large as many 5-seat compact cars, which is also a point of 6-seat compact models.

The GL6 took part in the 2018 C-NCAP crash test and received a 5-star rating with an overall score of 56.6 points, so there is no need to worry about both active and passive safety.
