The Baojun 730 is an MPV owned by SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun. The car went on sale in the second half of 2014. The overall shape of the Baojun 730 is similar to that of the Baojun 630. In 2017, the price of the facelifted 730 was increased, and the old 730 will continue to be sold as a classic.
The powertrain of the facelifted 730 is still a 1.5-liter manual transmission and a 1.8-liter AMT. This 1.5T engine is an engine independently developed by Wuling, not the 1.5T engine of Valeant and Envision. The difference between Wuling 1.5T and Buick 1.5T is that Wuling's cylinder block is made of cast iron, while Buick uses aluminum, Wuling's fuel supply method is multi-point injection, while Buick uses direct injection in the cylinder, as well as power and torque data, Wuling's 1.5T is not as gorgeous as Buick. Wuling's 1.5T engine is characterized by a very rich low torque, and from the moment it starts, the lightness of power has surpassed that of the previous 1.8L engine. In the city, the performance of this 1.5T engine is no different from the previous 1.5L, but on the highway and mountain roads, the advantage of turbocharging is reflected, and the acceleration impact is not much weaker than that of Volkswagen's 1.4T. The 730 is equipped with an electronic handbrake, but the handbrake switch is less sensitive. This set of electronic parking brakes is slow to unlock when stepping on the accelerator, and it takes half a second before it is automatically released, which reduces the driver's confidence.
The facelifted 730 is also more user-friendly in terms of details. The third-row seats can be partially reclined without completely sacrificing rear seating space when it comes time to store large luggage. The position of the rear air conditioning vents has been moved from the top of the front row to the top of the head of the second row, and the number of air vents has also been increased to five, so that passengers in the third row can directly blow cool breezes. The multimedia system on the center console has no physical buttons at all, but in practice, the feedback speed of this touch screen is very slow, and it is far less efficient than the physical buttons. Overall, there is no essential difference in ride comfort between the facelifted Baojun 730 and 730 Classic, as there are no significant changes in seats and space.
In terms of quality, according to JD Power's 2016 annual survey on the number of failures of 100 new cars, Baojun had 137 times, compared with an industry average of 146 times, ranking in the middle of domestic brands.
In terms of safety, the front dual airbags and ABS EBD have always been the standard configuration of the Baojun 730, and to some extent, it can be said that the emergence of the 730 has raised the safety configuration level of domestic civilian MPVs. The Baojun 730 1.5L Manual Comfort participated in the second batch of C-NCAP crash tests in 2015 and received a five-star safety rating with an overall score of 54.4 points.
