GMC Yukon River full-size SUV product review

GMC YUKON is called Yukon River in Chinese. While other brands are shifting their SUVs to sedan platforms and non-load-bearing bodies, GMC is still insisting on producing the Yukon River as a model for full-size pickups. Outwardly, the standard wheelbase Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe are like twins, while the long-wheelbase Yukon XL is closer to the Chevrolet Suburban.

The 2017 Yukon River debuted in China at the Shanghai Auto Show, where it was powered by a 6.2-liter engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. In 2015, GM underwent a comprehensive upgrade of the Yukon and its Chevrolet siblings, and the upgraded Yukon SLT became the most fun to drive in its class tested by Consumer Reports. The current Yukon River is powered by 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines, respectively, with both engines delivering excellent fuel economy. However, the towing capacity of the 5.3-litre engine does not show the strength of this displacement class. The 6.2-litre engine on the high-spec version will make a noticeable difference, the sound coming from this engine is very exciting, the towing capacity is also much higher than the 5.2-litre version, and the fuel consumption is naturally higher than that of the low-spec version, but the 8-speed automatic transmission on the high-spec version can slightly make up for this regret.

Despite the fact that the Yukon has a low-speed acceleration gear, it's still not an off-road SUV, making it easy for the Yukon to run aground due to the low front suspension. The "Magnetic Body Control System" has given full play to the smoothness of the Yukon River. The first thing that feels like a train on the Yukon is that it's quiet. The 22-inch tires were too big for the Yukon and looked awkward at low speeds. The Yukon seat's stitching isn't exquisite, with the first two rows being comfortable, but the third-row seats are too low to bend the knees. From the center console, the controls on the Yukon look simple, but most are small and too far away from the driver. As a full-size luxury SUV, the Yukon still needs to invest more in the ride experience.

Six years after the Yukon River's drive system was close to obsolescence, the 2016 Yukon suffered a massive suspension failure shortly after it was launched. Fragmentary faults such as no electricity, paint loss, and failure to close the door have become a long-standing problem for the Yukon River. Consumer Reports expects the Yukon River to perform the worst in terms of reliability in the future.

Naturally, there is no doubt about the ability of the Yukon River to collide. Each Yukon River's active safety suite is comprehensive, including Forward Vehicle Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, etc., giving the Yukon River an edge in active safety performance.
