Toyota Land Cruiser full-size SUV product review

Toyota Land Cruiser is Toyota's flagship SUV and shares the powertrain of Toyota Tantu. It's a fun to handle and reliable four-wheel-drive SUV, but the interior design is a bit simple, but its price-performance ratio is a world away from the Land Rover Discovery, an off-road vehicle that is advertised as luxurious.

With a military background, the Land Cruiser is gradually transforming into an urban SUV, and even so, the hard-core off-road genes of the Land Cruiser are still very obvious. The suspension is softly tuned, the cabin is quiet, and the linear steering output makes it feel like you're driving a small car. The current Land Cruiser is still equipped with a 4.6-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Affected by the gearbox protection, the engine does not rev well at the start, but you can still feel a fairly smooth power output after releasing the brakes, but it does not maintain such sustained and powerful acceleration in the rear, and the final 100 km/h acceleration time is 9.25 seconds. Although not fast, the engine and transmission did not disagree in the slightest.

In the tough section tests of The British Crazy Car Show, the Land Cruiser didn't show the same robustness as the Mitsubishi Outlander, but if you're looking for off-road ability, the Land Cruiser is still a great choice. Thanks to a low-gear gearbox and lockable center differential, the all-terrain adaptability of the ninth-generation Land Cruiser has been greatly improved.

The Land Cruiser offers the driver a comfortable and spacious driving space and all-round visibility. In order to improve the agility of the body, passengers in the second and third rows will feel cramped, and the expansion of the trunk with the folded seats in the third row is still limited. In general, the ride space provided by the Land Cruiser is not as generous as the Toyota Sequoia in the North American market, and in terms of configuration, the "thick line" off-road style of the Land Cruiser is still more significant. The rearview camera projects a large, clear image on the screen, making parking much easier, but other technological features are a bit outdated, especially for air conditioning and stereos.

Toyota has set one textbook reliability record after another, and despite the high-profile recalls that the Land Cruiser has endured, it still doesn't embarrass drivers in extreme road conditions. Since the first generation, the Land Cruiser has been abused in harsh environments around the world, so the quality of the Land Cruiser is also able to throw rivals a few streets away like the rest of Toyota's lineup.

Toyota Land Cruiser participated in the Australian NCAP crash test in 2015 and received a five-star safety rating. The more stringent Euro NCAP and IIHS do not have a record of evaluation by the Land Cruiser. Thanks to its stable body structure and extensive safety package, the Land Cruiser can be considered a completely safe car.
