Skoda Kodiak midsize SUV product review

Kodiak this car at the very beginning wanted to target a different market with Tiguan L, Tiguan L only has a 5-seat model in China, and Kodiak first launched a 7-seat model, and then launched Kodiak GT, basically determined that Kodiak is the main 7-seat demand, and Kodiak GT is mainly 5-seat demand. If you know anything about the Volkswagen Group, then between the Kodiak and the Tiguan L, choosing the Kodiak would be a more cost-effective option, as the two are almost identical in terms of hardware specifications, but the Kodiak is priced much lower than the Tiguan L.

The 5-seater Kodiak GT is equipped with a set of 1.4T with DQ200 powertrain, and the others are the third-generation EA888 2.0T engine with DQ380, the engine is divided into high and low power, the absolute power is satisfying, and the 000 acceleration of the low-power version can also be about 9 seconds. The power tuning is more comfortable, the front of the throttle is relatively slow, and the gearbox is not very willing to shift, and usually only one gear is lowered when given the power demand. The gearbox shifts smoothly, but a slight tugging sensation is still felt during downshifting.

The suspension price adjustment is under-damped, but the flexibility is not good, the road sense is relatively clear, in the gentle undulating road, the body will have a slight sense of floating, and when passing through some potholes, the shock absorber compression speed is relatively fast, giving people a feeling of being very fast to the end, the rebound speed is slow, and the body will shake slightly after the pit.

The Kodiak's noise control is very good, the environmental sound insulation and tire noise are excellent, there will be slight wind noise in the A-pillar at high speeds, and another slight noise source is the engine, but under the deliberate control of the revs, the daily driving will not be too disturbed.

In terms of central control, Skoda's set will look a little more interesting than the Volkswagen set, although they are all straighter lines, but the details will be a little more design than the Volkswagen. The central control touch screen is divided into a low-profile 6.5-inch and a high-profile 8-inch, the screen resolution is relatively high, and there will be no obvious graininess, but the touch rate is relatively low, and the response is half a beat slower. The mobile phone interconnection has CarPlay and Android Auto, and the convenience of connection is still very good.

The storage space in the front row is very sufficient, and there is a lot of storage space hidden in the range of activity of the main driver's hands, and the capacity is relatively large, but there are some places that are not very particular, for example, the opening of the left knee, as soon as the lid is opened, it will hit the knee, and you should pay attention to it when you use it.

The comfort of the Kodiak's middle row seats is good, the width can seat three adults, the length of the cushions on both sides is sufficient, the backrest angle can be adjusted, and the legroom is very abundant, but the padding material of the middle seat is relatively hard, and it protrudes upwards, plus the protruding central platform, the ride comfort is relatively poor.

The third row of seats is dispensable, if you want to sit people, the sitting position is squatting, the padding material of the seat cushion is relatively hard, the backrest is very straight, the knees will push up to the backrest of the second row of seats, and there is no rear air conditioning outlet, basically there is no "human rights" at all. If you don't have a seven-seater, the five-seater version of the Kodiak GT would be a better choice.

The Kodiak skews the trunk between the trunk space and the third-row space, and this idea is exactly the opposite of the Highlander, where the Kodiak sits very hard in the third row, but the trunk depth is better than that of the Highlander, and the capacity is larger. After the second and third rows are folded, the floor is close to full level, but the floor is slightly higher, which will be a little inconvenient to carry heavy loads.

In terms of reliability, one of the more common faults of Kodiak is body resonance, which generally occurs at around 1200-1400 rpm, and the reason is not clear for the time being, and there seems to be no solution. Another common point of failure is the gearbox, DQ380 set of wet dual clutch is more reliable than dry dual clutch, but there is still a certain probability of frustration and abnormal noise.

In terms of safety, Kodiak received a five-star rating in the 2017 E-NCAP crash test, and is also equipped with front collision warning and automatic emergency braking as standard.
