The first generation of Koleos came to China as an importer and has accumulated a certain amount of ownership and popularity. Although it has always been regarded as a French car, the first-generation Koleos was actually built by South Korea's Renault Samsung and used Nissan's platform and technology. Today's new generation of Koleos is still led by South Korea's Renault Samsung, using Nissan X-Trail's CMF platform, the only difference from the previous generation is that it is now produced by Dongfeng Renault in Wuhan. The all-new Koleos was developed by Renault mainly in response to the needs of the Chinese market, and the world premiere was held at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2016, and China was also the first market for it to be launched, even earlier than the French market.
This generation of Koleos is equipped with a 2.0-liter direct-injection engine from the MR20 and a 2.5-liter engine from the QR25, as well as a CVT transmission that can simulate a seven-speed speed, all of which are identical to the X-Trail with the same parameters. The high similarity of the powertrains makes the Koleos and X-Trail almost the same in terms of driving experience, and there is really no noticeable difference.
If there's one slight difference between the X-Trail and the Koleos in terms of drivability, it's from the tuning of the suspension. In fact, the suspension of X-Trail and Koleo is biased towards comfort, but the suspension of X-Trail will be a little softer than Koleo, and the support of X-Trail will be better than that of X-Trail, if the tire pressure of the two is adjusted, this difference may also disappear.
The interior of Koleos is also the normal level of Nissan, in addition to the position of the button for cruise control is very strange, that is, the central control multimedia screen is a bit unusual, it is a vertical screen, but the black edges around it are very thick, and a large screen is always there to make people feel like they are installed later.
In terms of seat comfort, X-Trail provides a very comfortable second row, while the front and rear seat cushions of the Koleo are very short, its first row is only 480mm long, which is shorter than the second row of X-Trail seat cushions, and the second row of seat cushions is even only 450mm, which is at the same level as the Tiguan, and the long-distance comfort is not good.
In terms of reliability, due to the use of Nissan Renault Alliance's common technology in the hardware, the Koleos has no obvious defects in the engine and chassis, except for the gearbox, due to the extremely slight difference in the precision of the meshing tooth surface of the intermediate gear when the gearbox output gear and the intermediate gear are meshed in a certain speed range, a few Koleos will have a slight friction whistle of the CVT gearbox, and there are also a few complaints of transmission frustration.
In terms of safety, Koleos has performed very well in both E-NCAP and C-NCAP, with a 5-star rating on E-NCAP in 2017 and a 5-star rating on C-NCAP in 2018.
