Nissan X-Trail Compact SUV Joint Venture Product Review

X-Trail is a compact SUV launched by Nissan in 2001, unlike competitors in the same class, X-Trail has always adhered to the shape and configuration of hard-core off-road, favored by off-road enthusiasts and outdoor sports enthusiasts, and is also the most popular SUV in the Japanese market, ranking first in sales of cars of the same class in Japan for ten consecutive years.

Nissan unveiled the third-generation X-Trail in 2013 and marketed it in North America under the Rogue name, a complete stylistic shift that competes head-to-head with a range of urban SUVs such as the CR-V. The sales of this generation also proved the new positioning correctly, and in 2016, the X-Trail became the world's No. 1 SUV in annual sales. The Chinese version of the third-generation X-Trail was introduced into China by Dongfeng Nissan and launched in March 2014.

The current X-Trail is a mid-2017 facelift, with a new family-style V-Motion design element and some minor changes, but the powertrain remains unchanged, with the 2.0 displacement using the MR20DD engine and the 2.5 displacement QR25DE, which is also used in the current Teana and Seema. THE MR20DD AND QR25DE ARE SELF-ASPIRATED ENGINES PAIRED WITH NISSAN'S XTRONIC CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION. This powertrain is insulated from the "abundant power", the maximum horsepower of the 2.0 is only 150 horsepower, and the 2.5 is only 186 horsepower, compared with the L15B turbo engine on the CR-V, it is not outstanding in terms of parameters, but it is not comparable to the turbine in terms of smoothness.

X-Trail's suspension action and CVT gearbox are aimed at smooth and comfortable, the suspension adjustment is soft, the body dynamics are more when cornering, and the rear seat can clearly feel the shaking, but the comfort is better in daily driving, and the size and vibrations are well filtered; This simulated 7-speed CVT transmission is still very CVT, very sensitive in the front of the throttle, but after deep pedaling, the rev climbs very fast, and the engine is also very loud, but the increase in power is very insignificant, and overtaking also needs to reserve a long distance. Between handling and comfort, Nissan is clearly more comfortable in terms of comfort.

Off-road has always been X-Trail's strong point, although the third-generation X-Trail changed to the urban SUV route, but the comfort of walking on bad roads is still better than most urban SUVs, and the off-road ability in the same class is one of the best. In general, the power is still mainly forward-drive, and the timely four-wheel drive system can achieve 50:50 power distribution before and after, and the ground clearance of 212mm also ensures good passability, and the suspension stroke is also long, with good grip. The high-spec X-Trail is equipped with a set of ATC active tracking control, which can independently control the 4-wheel braking to increase the control of cornering.

As a compact SUV, the workmanship and materials of the interior are straight to the mid-size sedan of the same price, and the facelifted steering wheel is flat-bottomed, and the aesthetics are much better than the previous "pants". After the facelift, the X-Trail has an additional seven-seater model, but it can only be used for short-distance emergencies, and the third row is still not used in most cases, and it can be put down to increase the trunk volume. On the 5-seater model, as a Nissan with a wheelbase of more than 2700mm, it has plenty of space, although the rear seats are not as soft as the front row, but Nissan is famous for "buying sand and sending cars", the backrest 5 adjustable angles are also more, the protrusion in the center of the floor is only a little bit, and the comfort of the rear row is also fully guaranteed. The 5-seater version of the X-Trail, the rear compartment is also divided into two layers, and the partition is placed in a variety of ways, although the seat cushion of the rear seat is thicker, and it cannot be completely flat after being put down, but the space is also very large.

The main difference between the X-Trail and the X-Trail is actually in terms of riding experience, the X-Trail provides a very comfortable second row, while the front and rear seat cushions of the Koleo are very short, its first row is only 480mm long, which is shorter than the second row of X-Trail seat cushions, and the second row of seat cushions is even only 450mm, which is at the same level as the Tiguan, and the long-distance comfort is not good.

X-Trail has always had a good reputation for quality in China, but judging from the statistics of American consumer reports, there is still a gap between it and the top quality of the same level. Since the launch of the third-generation X-Trail in the United States, the failures have mainly focused on electronic equipment such as air conditioning and audio, and in general, we can still regard the X-Trail as a reliable quality car, because it has no failure of key components, and there is no long-term continuous failure.

In terms of safety, the X-Trail also performed very well, with the 2014 X-Trail receiving a 5-star safety score on the E-NCAP list. At the IIHS, the post-2013 U.S. version of the X-Trail (Top Safety Pick) has been awarded the TSP (Top Safety Pick) every year, and in 2014 and 2017, it also won the TSP.
