The Touron is Volkswagen's mid-to-large SUV, which not only fills the gap of Volkswagen's 7-seater SUV model, but also is the largest model sold by Volkswagen in China. The Touron's sibling model in the United States is the Atlas, and the two are not only different in some details of the exterior and interior, but also in other hardware, the Atlas is powered by 2.0T and 3.6L V6 with 8AT, and the Touron uses 2.0T and 2.5T V6 with DQ500 wet dual-clutch transmission. The price of the Atlas abroad is $30,500 – $48,490 (about 200,000 yuan to 320,000 yuan), which is highly overlapping with the price of the Highlander ($30,630 – $47,880), but after SAIC's domestic production, the starting price has reached 308,900 yuan, and then the supply is still in short supply, and the price is really puzzling.
 
The Touron is equipped with two engines, one is the 2.5T V6 EA390 and the other is the 2.0T straight-four EA888, and the 2.0T is divided into a low-power version and a high-power version, capable of producing 186 hp and 220 hp of maximum horsepower. The 2.5T version is not recommended, on the one hand, the quality of the third-generation EA888 itself is already good, high power and low power are just different tunings made by manufacturers in order to open up the price gap, the zero hundred results of the low-power version have been able to run into 10 seconds, quite enough, brush an ECU to easily reach 300 horsepower, and 2.5T Although the engine gives close to 300 horsepower, it is undeniable that it does not sound like a V6, it still sounds like a four-cylinder turbine, at least it lacks the 3.0 V6 that kind of delicate breathing sound, and the starting price is already 100,000 more expensive than the 2.0T high power and low configuration. Judging from the current sales volume, the 2.0T is still the main model, especially the 2.0T high-power and low-configuration version, equipped with full-time four-wheel drive, which is cost-effective among many models of Tourang.
 
Both the 2.0T and 2.5T are equipped with DQ500 gearboxes, but there is a big difference in tuning, the 2.0T version of the throttle response will be slower, and there will be no significant power change until 2/3 throttle, but in the S gear, the throttle response will be slightly more sensitive, while the 2.5T can also provide power in time in normal mode. This DQ500 still has a small problem with Volkswagen dual-clutch at low speeds, but it is not very obvious in daily driving, and the only defect that can be clearly detected is that when D gear is hung in R gear, the combination of clutch is very slow, and after hanging R gear, you have to think about life.
 
The Touron uses an MQB road chassis, which is a double-edged sword for an SUV, on the one hand, it does improve its handling, but on the other hand, it also significantly reduces its passability, and as a 2-ton car, the MQB platform has a very bad impact on its shock filtration. It is no exaggeration to say that the Touron is extremely sensitive to small vibrations, and every time it passes in a hard way, and large vibrations will produce a lot of redundant movements, and the shaking of the body is very large, not only the passengers in the rear row will get motion sickness, but even the driver's seat will have a feeling of vertigo, which is much worse than the high 7 that also uses the MQB platform, and the driving quality is comparable to that of a 100,000 yuan self-owned brand car.
 
The biggest advantage of the Touron is the space, which can ensure that all seven people in the car can sit in a more stretched sitting position, and in the case of a full load, there can be plenty of space in the trunk, and the occupants have plenty of head and knee room. There is also a lot of storage space in the car, and there are a lot of places to put sundries in the water cup, and even the engine compartment has a lot of storage space. It's a pity that in addition to space, the gap between the interior and texture of the whole car and the price is very large, it is difficult to imagine a car that is close to 400,000 and can reach 500,000 with high configuration, there is no soundproof cotton on the door panel, not even stiffeners, whether you press the door panel from the outside or inside, it feels particularly thin. The design of the central control is also nothing new, the button on the right is a little far away from the main driver, and the texture of the button is also quite cheap.
 
The direct competitor of the Touron in China is the Ford Explorer, and its starting price is lower than that of the imported Explorer, which is the lowest price model in this size, but in the end, in addition to space, the Touron is worse than the Highlander in all aspects, and if it is not a die-hard fan of Volkswagen, there is no reason to choose the Touron over the Highlander.
