Is there a big difference between the 3rd generation Cayenne and the previous generation Cayenne? From the outside, it is not big, if it is not for the rear of the car to change the through-type taillights and fine-tune the tail shape, it is indeed difficult to distinguish the two generations of models. Internally, the change is significant. The new generation Cayenne has eliminated the GTS and Turbo S of the previous generation, leaving only the Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, with only three models, making it easier to distinguish between classes.
The entry-level and best-selling Cayenne is equipped with a 3.0T single-turbo engine with a maximum horsepower of 340 hp and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.2 seconds, while the optional Sport Chrono Package can run in 5.9 seconds, while the higher-level Cayenne S is equipped with Porsche's new engine, a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 engine with a maximum horsepower of 440 hp and a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 5.2 seconds with an optional Sport Chrono The Package is in 5.9 seconds, while the top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 550 hp and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, while the optional Sport Chrono Package takes 3.9 seconds. The three powertrains are actually very memorable, with a minimum of 340 hp in 5.9 seconds, and each higher level increases the horsepower by 100 hp and the 0-100 acceleration time is one second less.
Instead of using the Panamera's new 8-speed PDK gearbox, the new Cayenne uses the Tiptronic S 8-speed automatic manual transmission, which has been optimised by the manufacturer for a lot of optimizations, such as amplifying the low-gear torque, turning the 7th and 8th gears into super-ratio gears to reduce fuel consumption when cruising at high speeds, but in reality, the 8-speed Tiptronic S has no problem with the smoothness of shifting, and when it comes to changing gears, it is indeed not as fast as the 8-speed PDK.
The same gearbox with different engines, the effect is also very different, in terms of calibration, the most balanced is the entry version of the Cayenne, although the Cayenne S has more horsepower, but it is not as comfortable as the entry version in terms of low-speed driving, I feel that there is always some pulling in the low gear, if it is not a driver who is used to driving fast every day, the entry version plus the Sport Chrono Package, the cost performance will be higher than that of the Cayenne S.
The new generation Cayenne is still the sportiest and funniest model in its class, using the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform, four-wheel drive, and although the official claims to use more lightweight treatment, the Chinese version of the Cayenne still weighs 2,095kg, while the American version of the Cayenne is only 1,985kg (4,377lb). In terms of suspension, there will be mechanical suspension and air suspension options, but the amount of mechanical suspension will be very small, and the main models are basically three-chamber air suspension, equipped with Porsche 4D chassis control system, PDCC active anti-roll system and rear-wheel steering.
The new Cayenne also follows the Panamera's new interior in terms of interior, the fingerprint collector-like piano paint center console, which looks like a touch control, but in fact the feedback of pressing is very physical, the 12.3-inch screen has a high resolution, and the touch response is also very fast, and this set of central control is generally praised. The dashboard looks like a 911 five-even meter, but only the tachometer in the middle is the pointer, the left and right are LCD screens, the amount of information is very rich, and the screen on the right can display navigation information, which is much better than the dashboard of the new navigator.
The Cayenne is not faulty in terms of space, after all, this is a 5-seater SUV with a wheelbase of almost 2.9 meters, the head and knee room in the rear row are sufficient, the middle platform is not high, and there is no problem with sitting three people side by side. The angle and softness of the seat are also very good, but because there is a folding armrest in the middle, the shape of the middle seat is relatively straight, and the comfort is average. The empty trunk volume is 770 liters, and the rear seats support 424 one-button reclining, and the trunk has a volume of 1707 liters when folded.
Cayenne did not participate in the IIHS crash test, but received a five-star rating in the E-NCAP crash test, with an occupant protection score of 95 points, and safety is well guaranteed. The second-generation Cayenne did not show the level of reliability that Porsche should have, even if the car was young, the failure rate of each system was relatively high, so the American consumer report only gave a low score of 1 out of 5 for the reliability expectations of the third-generation Cayenne.
