The BYD Song was launched in October 2015 and has two power versions: 1.5T turbo and 2.0T turbo. Whether it is a Chinese brand or a joint venture compact urban SUV, it is rare to use such a large displacement as the 2.0T turbo, and the acceleration of the Song 2.0T model from 0 to 100 kilometers in about 9 seconds is not only top-notch among Chinese brands, but also not slow in similar models of joint venture brands.
However, this does not mean that the Song has a good power performance, there are some cars that do not have particularly strong acceleration results, but the power output is very linear, and it can always be pedaled, such as the Mazda CX-5. And every time Song steps on the accelerator, the power output will always lag behind, and the intervention of the turbo and the power increase are very abrupt, so although it has a good acceleration result, it is not easy to drive it when it needs to overtake frequently.
BYD is also one of the earliest domestic testers of dual-clutch transmission, and the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission equipped with Song has been in service for many years in BYD models. Its performance on the speed is very bad, from time to time there will be frustration and loss of gear, the quality and reliability is also worrying, now this gearbox has made great progress, however, in the low-speed stun control, and the shift logic during intense driving, its shortcomings are still prominent, still not up to the mainstream level.
The BYD Song is not a car that does a good job of handling, and its straight-line acceleration is relatively fast, but that's about it. If you're driving a meek car, you'll find it easy to handle, but if you're looking for a bit of handling, and you like to cornering at high speeds or driving aggressively, its performance will drop dramatically because its mechanical quality is really not high.
Song's steering wheel is easy to operate, its virtual position is large and the number of laps is large, which can reduce the difficulty of driving to a certain extent, but it is not conducive to rapid U-turn and flexible line change, and the feeling of driving it is relatively loose, just like driving a very large car. Moreover, the roll of the body of this car is also relatively large when it merges and turns quickly, which greatly affects driving confidence, because Song's rear suspension is not designed with anti-roll bars, which should be one of the main reasons for the large roll.
The sound insulation ability of the BYD Song body and chassis is still very good. As long as the acceleration is smooth and the engine revs too high, the car can maintain a relatively comfortable environment, and if you drive aggressively, both engines are noisy.
From a static point of view, Song's space performance is good, and the rear legroom is also very guaranteed among Chinese brands, but its actual rear seat is not comfortable, and the problem is mainly in the seats. Another feature of the seats in this car is that the driver's seat is very high even when adjusted to the lowest height, which seems to only consider the needs of novice drivers who like to sit very high.
Song offers a wide range of interior features, including cruise control, PM2.5 purification system, seat heating, panoramic view, etc. But it's one thing to be equipped with a lot of features, and it's another thing to guarantee the quality of use of the features. For example, the panoramic image was originally a relatively "overstepping" configuration, but Song's panoramic image did not feel good to use, and once it encountered a situation where the light was too dark or too strong, the camera quality would be greatly reduced.
BYD's past models have many gearbox and electronic failures, and in Song, small problems such as the central control screen crash and blue screen are still common, and the common abnormal body and engine noises are not too reassuring. In fact, in the F3 era, BYD's body craftsmanship and workmanship level was advantageous among Chinese brands, but over the years, the sensory quality of the body of other Chinese brands has been greatly improved, and BYD has made limited progress.
BYD Song participated in the second batch of C-NCAP crash tests in 2016 and obtained a 5-star safety evaluation. The overall score was 58.0 points.
