Both in terms of appearance and performance, the old Jaguar XJ was a very conservative luxury car. Therefore, Jaguar XJ has been squeezed out by local giants such as Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the European market for many years. In an effort to reverse this, the new Jaguar XJ has become one of the most beautiful and handling models in the Jaguar lineup. Even so, it is no match for Europe's powerhouses.
The Jaguar XJ is built on the same platform as the new Range Rover, with the same chassis as the Range Rover, and the body is made of lightweight aluminium, which is much lighter and more powerful. The adaptive dampers are one of the few highlights of the Range Rover, and it performs very well on the Jaguar XJ, with the British car magazine Auto Express saying that few cars can show the agility of the Jaguar XJ in continuous pile-hopping. The main market force of the Jaguar XJ is the 3.0T engine. In the battle of 100 kilometers of acceleration, the Jaguar XJL of the same displacement is about 0.3 seconds slower than the Audi A8L, and during the acceleration process, the rear windshield and other parts of the Jaguar XJL will shake violently. Considering the light weight of the Jaguar XJL, there is still a certain gap in the overall handling performance of the Jaguar XJL compared with the latter.
Like all sports sedans, the Jaguar XJ has put a lot of effort into the driver's seat. Inside the cockpit, you will find that the low profile does resemble a sports car, and in the 2015 facelift, the Jaguar XJ's centre console is trying to mimic the Audi virtual cockpit, and since most of the functions come from the Range Rover, this borrowing is self-defeating by Jaguar. The Jaguar XJ focuses so much on the immediate sense of the coupe that it seriously sacrifices rear space, and even in long-wheelbase models, the rear and backroom space are not as good as the standard wheelbase Audi A8. The fastback shape will even make passengers bend over the whole time, and the middle seat is too narrow to sit anywhere. Rear visibility is also poor, and it is difficult to park smoothly without the help of electronic assistance. Overall, the Jaguar XJ ride experience was quite uncomfortable.
In terms of quality, Consumer Reports did not conduct a large-scale follow-up survey of the Jaguar XJ, but the reliability of the Jaguar Land Rover family has been criticized. Jaguar XJ's suspension and power delivery technology have appeared in models such as Range Rover, and the quality is very worrying.
The Jaguar XJ has not yet participated in crash tests, but as the sedan flagship of the Jaguar Land Rover family, we don't think consumers need to worry about its safety.
