The BMW 6 Series is actually a model with a complex background, the first generation model (E24) was produced from 1976 to 1989, and then 14 years later, the second generation model (E63/E64) was relaunched until it was discontinued in 2010, and the third generation 6 Series has three models, namely the four-door Gran Coupe (F06), the two-door convertible (F12), and the two-door Coupe (F13), which was launched in 2011 and discontinued in 2018.
While the third-generation 6 Series was still on sale, the 6 Series GT with chassis code G32 was launched in 2017. Although its name is the 6 Series Gran Turismo, it is actually the successor to the 5 Series GT and has little to do with the original 6 Series. Although the 5 Series GT is called the 5 Series, it uses the chassis of the F01 generation 7 Series, which has little to do with the 5 Series, while the G32, the 6 Series GT, uses the CLAR platform, which is the same chassis as the G11 BMW 7 Series. The third-generation BMW 6 Series was discontinued in 2018 and replaced by the resurrected 8 Series.
In terms of appearance, each manufacturer has different definitions of GT and will make different interpretations, and the 6 Series GT is a crossover that has done a good job in applicability and comfort. Its body height is between an SUV and a sedan, with a fastback shape, but the body is higher than a sedan, and it has a large liftback tailgate, and the rear seat also supports reclining, and it is a fully flat platform after being put down, so the trunk space will be much larger than that of a fastback sedan. The 6 Series GT has four frameless doors, and it's up to you to like it or not, but be careful every time you open and close the doors, as they can be easily damaged if you bump them.
When the 6 Series GT was first released, there was a 3.0T model, but as the China VI standard gradually approached, only the 2.0T model remained in the 2019 model, using a B48 turbocharged engine, all of which were high-power tuned, with a maximum of 258 horsepower, matched with a ZF 8HP50Z 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain is already relatively mature, and BMW's tuning of ZF's 8AT can be said to be second to none in the industry, and there is no need to worry about shift speed, shift logic and shift smoothness.
In driving, the easily perceived deficiencies mainly come from the large inertia of the body, which can clearly feel the roll of the body when cornering, coupled with the light steering damping of the steering wheel, there is a sense of isolation between the steering wheel and the steering when driving, giving people less confidence, and there is a large gap with the BMW models that emphasize the drivability in the past, and there are obvious shortcomings in the drivability.
In terms of suspension, the 6 Series GT is equipped with air suspension as standard, but there is a gap between the shock filter texture and the word GT, because it still uses a run-of-pressure tire, and the harder tire wall causes the fine vibration to be filtered not very well, and the tire noise is also more obvious. The use of run-of-pressure running tires can reduce the spare tire in the trunk, and if you change to comfortable soft tires, it is not a big problem, as long as there is tire toner and air pump.
In terms of interior, it belongs to the normal play of BMW, the workmanship and material are excellent, the difficulty in choosing lies in the color, although the cognac color is classic, but the appearance is relatively ordinary, the black is too low-key, the ivory white is elegant enough but relatively not easy to take care of, the best choice in general is Mocha, although low-key and dirt-resistant, but you can see enough details, the color is also relatively unique, it belongs to the low-key color with a bit of luxury.
As a car named after GT, the ride comfort of the 6 Series GT is indeed very good, the front seats have adjustable leg rests, the headrest is also electrically adjusted, the sitting position is higher than that of the sedan, the comfort of the rear seats is also very good, the length of the seat cushion is long enough, and the backrest angle is also relatively reclined, just because it is a rear-wheel drive model, and the middle platform bulge is relatively high.
In terms of reliability, because the sales of the 6 Series GT are not high, the number of complaints in China is very small, and the American "Consumer Reports" does not have specific reliability data, only giving a reliability expectation of 3 points, which is considered average.
In terms of safety, the BMW 6 Series GT took part in the E-NCAP crash test in 2017 and received a 5-star rating with a score of 85 for occupant protection.
