At present, the Taurus on sale in China is the seventh generation, produced by Changan Ford, and belongs to China's special models, and the first six generations are all American-made cars, and the United States is now selling the sixth generation model.
 
The seventh-generation Taurus uses the Ford CD4 platform, which is the same platform as the Mondeo, but the Taurus is mainly in the C-class car market, so the wheelbase has been lengthened by about 10 cm, which is longer than the LaCrosse and Crown of the same level, and the length of the car has also increased by 12 cm, reaching a car length of nearly 5 meters, plus the width and height have also increased, and the appearance is much larger than the Mondeo.
 
The early Taurus was generous in the engine, giving the 2.7T 325 model and the 2.0T 245 model, the 2.7T is very powerful, and can even be described as surging. After the 2018 model, there is no 325 model, only the 2.0T and 1.5T EcoBoost engines remain, which continue to be paired with a 6F35 gearbox.
 
There is a big difference between the 2.0T and 1.5T engines in the maximum output power, which is easy to reflect in high-speed road conditions and rapid acceleration, but if you only drive in the city every day, the gap between the two engines will be narrowed a little, because Ford's power tuning of the small-displacement turbocharged engine is also more aggressive, the Volkswagen 1.4T EA211 high-power version is usually about 150 horsepower, and Ford's 1.5T has been adjusted to 181 horsepower, which is only a little smaller than the 193 horsepower of Honda Crown Road on the books, so there will be no feeling of a small horse-drawn cart.
 
When this engine copes with the power demand, it will often be achieved by downshifting and pulling the speed, but it will turn the tachometer into a column on the dashboard, making the speed very inconspicuous, and its engine sound insulation is very good, so it will not feel that the engine has been pulling the speed every day. The small displacement engine achieves power output by pulling the speed, which is prone to the problem of high fuel consumption, and the comprehensive fuel consumption difference between Taurus 1.5T and 2.0T is not big for 10 kilometers, 1.5T is 10 liters, and 2.0T is about 10.8 liters.
 
The reliability reputation of the 6F35 gearbox is very average, but in terms of driving experience, the ride and shift logic are relatively good, and the power reserve of the engine is relatively sufficient, which can minimize the gearbox shift action, and will not affect the smoothness of frequent gear changes, just to say that this gearbox will be a little slower in terms of shift speed, not as good as Mazda's set of 6AT. Ford and GM have gradually popularized multi-gear transmissions in recent years, and Taurus, as Ford's most high-end sedan in China, may soon be replaced with multi-gear transmissions.
 
Cars in this class rarely pursue driving pleasure, and the same is true for the Taurus, if the previous 325 models were able to rely on power for driving pleasure, then the current 180 and 245 can only get a certain sense of handling through the steering feel. Taurus uses a lot of aluminum alloy parts in the suspension part to reduce the unsprung mass, and the steering and chassis tuning are also relatively straightforward, which can be regarded as a good car, but it will still have a more obvious big car feeling when driving.
 
The style of suspension tuning belongs to the front hard and soft back, when dealing with some road joints or rough asphalt roads, the action of the initial section of the suspension is more fine, the road sense transmission is richer, and the lack of the sense of luxury should be, and when the pothole speed bump is too large, the action will be softer. As a C-segment, this kind of tuning style or shock absorption quality is difficult to be satisfied with, especially since there are excellent models such as the ES and Crown in front of this class.
 
Ford has worked the interior materials of the Taurus, and the area of leather wrapping and soft plastic is relatively large, but the Ford model is always inferior to its own high-end brand Lincoln for the creation of a sense of luxury, and the Taurus is still a typical Ford model in terms of appearance, but it is more meticulous in materials and workmanship. If you want to experience a sense of luxury on the Taurus, you have to go to the top to have wood grain trim and diamond stitching.
 
In terms of central control, Ford's Sync 3 is also easy to use, but it is not suitable for blind operation, and it is recommended to use CarPlay for daily driving.
 
The rear seat space is very spacious, the head and leg room are abundant, and the seat back angle and cushion length are also very suitable, after all, the Taurus is also a business-oriented model, and the rear seat comfort is quite guaranteed. The rear seats of the high-spec model also support backrest adjustment, ventilation, heating, massage and other functions that are only available on the top-spec model.
 
Taurus's sales in China are not high, with an average monthly sales of three digits since the second half of 18, and there are not many reliability complaints, mainly focused on the assembly process, and there is a small amount of oil leakage in the engine gearbox, but it is not serious. In contrast, the reliability of the sixth-generation Taurus in the United States appears to be very average, with assembly and in-car electrical appliances being high-risk areas, and the fault points are scattered.
 
In terms of safety, the American version of the Taurus is a sixth-generation model that does not have a strong reference value, and the Mondeo, which uses the same platform, received a full "Good" in the IIHS crash test. In the domestic C-NCAP, Taurus received a 5-star rating in 2016 with an overall score of 55.4.
