The Cadillac ATS is not a car with a legacy, and if it does, then the CTS has something to do with it. In the era of CTS, GM felt that it was a good deal for consumers to buy a CTS with the same size as the BMW 5 Series at the price of the BMW 3 Series, but the market proved GM wrong, so they rebuilt a model similar to the size of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and ATS appeared.
Cadillac didn't have a smaller sedan before the ATS, but if the Sigma II platform was used, it would be too heavy, and the front-wheel drive platform would sacrifice some of the sporty performance, so they built the Alphard platform, which can be used in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive models, and is also smaller. The B-pillar of the standard axle version of the ATS is relatively short, and the proportion of the four-door model is very strange, while the two-door model is just right, and the long-axis version made by SAIC-GM has a wheelbase of 85mm, and the length is added to the B-pillar, and the overall proportion will be much better than the standard axle version.
The powertrain of the domestic long-axle version is also divided into the early and late versions, the LTG engine of the early model is divided into high and low power, but the hardware is the same, but the tuning is different, the price of the low-power version is cheaper than the high-power version in the 4S, and the low-power version is canceled in the later version, leaving only 28T a high-power version, with a maximum horsepower of 279 horsepower, and zero hundred acceleration can run to 6.2 seconds, and there is a great potential for modification. The gearbox of the early model is GM 6T70, GM's early 6AT has obvious shortcomings in terms of ride and reliability, and the later switch to the Hydra-Matic 8L45 8-speed automatic transmission, the reliability has been improved to a certain extent.
The output power of this 2.0T engine has a great advantage over similar models, and the strong power is also a major selling point of the ATS-L, but it is accompanied by a high fuel consumption of 12 liters per 100 kilometers in the city. Back to daily driving, the ATS-L's gearbox is obviously dragging its feet, and there will often be a stutter at low speeds, especially in the case of 1st gear up 2nd gear, and when the power demand is given in the middle of the road, the gearbox will have half a second to 1 second to think about life, and then downshift to accelerate. Among the 8ATs of ZF, Aisin, and GM, GM's 8AT is the worst.
ATS-L's suspension tuning has nothing to do with softness, but it is not stiff, because the cushioning of the bushing is better, it is a tough feeling, when walking on some fine bumpy roads, the road sense will be obvious, and the road information may be too much, but the action of dealing with ditches and bumps is relatively crisp, and it will not be like a traditional American car, which makes people feel dizzy. When driving at high speeds, the ATS-L can also do movements very easily, and the body is also in a very controllable range, which can give people relatively strong confidence.
The interior is not ATS-L's strong point, there is basically no sense of refinement in the design, the glossy material center console is a fingerprint collector, soft plastic and leather wrapping is more, but the workmanship is also rough. ATS-LThe experience of the CUE system is also average,The touch response is relatively slow,The interface is not advanced,And InfinitiQ50LThe above set is similar,It's hard to make people want to use it。
Although the ATS-L has lengthened the wheelbase, the 85mm is not obvious in the rear seat space, although there is a margin for knee space, but there is no feeling of spaciousness, the width of the rear row is not sufficient, it will be crowded when riding three adults, plus the volume of the rear central platform, as well as the rear air conditioning vent on the knees, the head will be on the roof, and the passengers in the middle will be very uncomfortable.
The current Cadillac ATS did not participate in IIHS and NCAP crash tests, but it performed well in the 2014 crash tests of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the passive safety expectations are optimistic.
