Although it is debatable whether the Honda Accord is the world's No. 1 selling mid-level car, it must be Americans' favorite mid-level car, with cumulative global sales of more than 20 million Accords, including 13 million in the United States alone, a figure that even exceeds Camry's sales in the United States.
In China, the first time Guangben introduced the Accord was the sixth generation, when the Accord had already been sold in versions, and the prototype of the domestic Accord was the American version of the Accord. From 1999 to the present, the Accord has also gone from the sixth generation to the tenth generation, and has also witnessed the official end of the self-priming era of the Accord. The 10th-generation Accord shares the same platform as the 10th-generation Civic and the fifth-generation CR-V, which is Honda's new platform for small and medium-sized cars, with a 50mm longer wheelbase but a 10mm shorter length.
Guangben has the Accord, and Dongben also has a sister model, called Inspire, to replace the Spire. Inspire does not have a Chinese name, and its reputation is not as good as the Accord, but compared to Spire, Inspire's pricing and sales strategy this time is very reasonable, and the official guide price is just stuck between each configuration of the Accord, as a differentiated choice for the Accord, and it is precisely because the popularity is not as good as the Accord, so the Inspire will be more favorable than the Accord in terms of terminal price, which is worth considering.
Unlike the Camry, which still insists on self-priming, the self-priming era of the Accord has come to an end, and traditional power models use turbocharged engines. In addition to the 1.5T, the American version of the Accord also has a K20 2.0T engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, Motor Trend has tested this powertrain, 0-60mph ran a time of 5.7 seconds, which is indeed very impressive, you must know that the 3.0L V6 Turbo Porsche Panamera is also 5.5 seconds. It is known that neither the 2.0T version nor the manual transmission will be introduced in China, and the hybrid version will be released later.
The 2.0T 10AT is not coming to China, is the 1.5T Accord the "Big Civic"? Not. The domestic Accord will use a high-power L15BN and a low-power L15BM, with a maximum output of 143kW and 130kW respectively, while the Civic is the L15B8. This high-power engine of the Accord is the third stage of this series, adding the exhaust side VTEC, equipped with the hardware to realize VTEC, and continuing the existing intake and exhaust double-sided VTC, using a lightweight and high-rigidity steel crankshaft and forged steel connecting rod, and a new hollow lightweight low-inertia camshaft. According to the manufacturer, this engine will also not experience an increase in oil on the CR-V.
This generation of Accord has indeed become sportier in appearance, but Honda also knows that consumers just like to "look sporty", and the actual driving experience is still more comfortable. The transmission of the 10th generation Accord is greatly improved from the CVT transmission on the 9th generation, and the transmission ratio at the start has been reduced after the improvement, and the starting action will be more sensitive and direct. The G-Design Shift control function has also been improved, and the shift logic control mode increases the rev and speed in sync, making the throttle feel more "heel".
The chassis still uses the front MacPherson rear multi-link, but the improvements are that the front suspension has increased the use of aluminum alloy and a new L-shaped lower swing arm, and the rear suspension uses a multi-link suspension with a floating subframe. At the same time, this generation of Accord has made great progress in shock filtration, because the hydraulic flexible bushing is used on the suspension system, and the adhesive bushing is used for the anti-roll bar.
In the center control part, the improvement of the Accord is also very obvious, it is not as designed as the Camry, nor is it luxurious, but it adds a little bit of sophistication on the basis of simplicity. It adds a floating touch screen, and physical buttons are placed next to it, which not only maintains a sense of technology, but also facilitates blind control, which is very easy to use. The "click" sound of the knob is very textured and much better than the previous generation's sliding way to adjust the temperature of the air conditioner. However, it should be noted that the Accord is no longer the Accord of the previous 6th and 7th generations, it is no longer a high-end selling point, just a mid-level car suitable for families, the configuration of the rear row is quite simple, except for the two air conditioning outlets, you can't find anything else.
In terms of space, this generation of Accord has made a slip-back shape, which has a little impact on the headroom of the rear row, but because the wheelbase is elongated, the legroom is greater than that of the previous generation Accord. The rear center seat can be folded down in its entirety and turned into an extended armrest. The middle platform is a little high, and the air conditioning vents are more prominent, even if the backrest in the center of the rear row is relatively flat, the passenger sitting in the center is not too comfortable. The trunk can only be opened halfway, and the remaining half has to be opened manually, and the fluttering trunk lid is not advanced, but the trunk space is a little larger than that of the Camry, which is more practical.
The Accord has shown excellent reliability over the past decade, and until now, it is not uncommon to see many 6th-generation Accords on the road that are close to 20 years old, and the expected reliability of the 10th-generation Accord is also relatively optimistic.
The Accord has always been one of the safest cars, and for the past four years it has been the IIHS Top Safety (TSP) model, and this generation of Accord will become more models with Honda Sensing. In 2018, the Accord received full honors in the collision category of the IIHS, but unfortunately the headlights were rated Acceptable, and only received TSP, not TSP.
