The Mingtu is an entry-level mid-size car launched by Beijing Hyundai specifically for the Chinese market, which first appeared as a concept car at the 2013 Beijing Auto Show, and then appeared at the Chengdu Auto Show in the form of a 2014 production car in September. Mingtu's positioning in China is between Sonata and Lingdong, so it will still be positioned as a B-class car, but its competitors are compact Suteng, Yinglang, in fact, this is a dislocation competition, the same is a joint venture, you can buy a medium-sized car with compact money, Mingtu's goal can be said to be very clear.
Mingtu does not use the platform of Lingdong or Sonata, but uses the platform of Hyundai i40 (European version of Sonata), front MacPherson, rear multi-link, this set of multi-link suspension is completely taken from i40, in comparison, most of its competitors are using torsion beams, in this respect Mingtu will give people a more advanced feeling.
Originally, there were two engines, 1.8L and 2.0L, but after the 2017 model year, it was changed to 1.8L and 1.6T engines. The 1.8-litre naturally aspirated engine, codenamed G4NB, produces 143 hp at 6,200 rpm and 176 Nm at 4,500 rpm, mated to either a manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission from Pavotel. The 1.6T engine, codenamed G4FJ, produces 175 hp at 5,500 rpm, has a maximum torque of 265 Nm, and has a torque platform of 1,500-4,500 rpm, mated to a 7-speed dry dual-clutch gearbox.
The main sales force of Mingtu is the 1.8 model, and if you have the pursuit of power and do not have a problem with the dual-clutch, you can also consider the 1.6T model. The 1.8L naturally aspirated engine is paired with a Pavoltai 6AT, and this powertrain has been used on many models of Hyundai and Kia, and the whole match is very mature. Although the maximum power can only be output at 6200 rpm, the timing of the gearbox shift is well grasped, and there will be no lack of power in daily driving.
The chassis tuning of the Mingtu is actually biased towards European cars, that is to say, it is not perfect in terms of localization, and the driving on potholes will always give people a bumpy feeling, and the slightly higher Sonata, K5, compared with the chassis tuning, the Mingtu will be lacking in chassis tuning.
Sound insulation is not the advantage of the famous map, the vehicle is relatively quiet when idling, but the engine speed rises, the noise will cause a certain nuisance to the passengers in the compartment, at a speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour, wind noise, tire noise is also more obvious, the noise is large.
The interior of the Mingtu is also the same as other modern models, more than practical, but the design is insufficient, the distribution of functional areas is very neat, and the overall design style tends to be conservative. There is not only a touch screen, commonly used function keys but also physical buttons, and blind operation is also relatively convenient. There is a lot of storage space in the front section, and there are suitable places for bits and pieces and mobile phones, and they are quite easy to pick and place.
As a mid-level car, although the rear seat space is not as good as the K5 and Sonata, it is already abundant. There is no problem with the cushion length and backrest angle of the rear seats, but the defect lies in the material of the seat, which is generally stiff, and the suspension itself is relatively hard, so it affects the comfort of the rear seat to a certain extent.
The configuration of the Mingtu is also quite complete, except for the lowest configuration, it is equipped with a body stability system and an hill assist system, which supports one-button start and trunk induction opening. In terms of safety, Mingtu participated in the C-NCAP crash test in 2014 and received a 5-star rating, while the Hyundai i40 (European version of Sonata) using the same platform received a 5-star rating in the European E-NCAP crash test.
