BMW 2 Series Touring Luxury Brand Compact Sedan Product review

The BMW 2 Series sedan is a new coupe model based on the 1 Series platform, which was officially launched at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and the domestic version of this "sports tourer" in 2016.

The BMW 2 Series sedan is an extension of the previous 1 Series sedans, offering greater driving pleasure but with an interior that is almost as cramped as the 1 Series and still a pure BMW. But we would like to highlight the sports tourer version of the 2 Series, which has many firsts for the BMW brand: the new UKL platform (which will be used in both the new 1 Series and the new X1 in the future), the first front-wheel drive model of the BMW brand, the first MPV model, and the first three-cylinder single-power model for the first time. It's a completely wide family car, not so much like a BMW, but full of product.

BMW's engine technology goes without saying, and like all BMW models, the 2 Series sedan still offers a wide range of power options. Even the entry-level 1.5T model is not weak, and the heaviest convertible version of the 1.5T model can accelerate to 10 kilometers per 100 kilometers, which is a slow result for a BMW, but it is not slow among compact cars in the Chinese market. The domestically produced 2 Series sports wagon offers two displacements, 1.5T and 2.0T, and its power performance is close to that of a coupe, with an acceleration time of more than 9 seconds and 7 seconds per 100 kilometers respectively.

As a family car, the most noteworthy improvement of the BMW 2 Series is actually the space performance, which of course only refers to the 2 Series station wagon. The 2 Series Wagon is still not a true station wagon, and it would be more appropriate to call it a compact hatchback, but it does have the most spacious ride in its class, and the boot space is very satisfying. In the compact car class, the domestic market doesn't offer many hatchback options, and if you don't want to drive a cookie-cutter sedan that far exceeds the configuration level of the Nissan Tiida and has as sharp handling and power as a sedan, then the 2 Series Wagon is a very competitive option – provided you're willing to accept its higher brand premium, of course.

The reliability of BMW cars fluctuates quite a bit, with some BMW cars being as reliable as Toyotas, and others being notorious for various faults. As a completely new model, there are no long-term statistics on the quality of the 2 Series, and from the statistics of its predecessor, the BMW 1 Series, the overall quality is reliable.

In terms of safety, the BMW 2 Series sedan was the IIHS's top safety model (TSP) in 2015 and received top ratings in all crash tests, although its forward collision prevention system was slightly inferior to the Honda Civic in terms of sensitivity. The domestically produced BMW 2 Series Wagon, which was born out of the 2 Series sedan, does not have foreign crash test data, but it is undoubtedly completely safe in terms of safety.
