Nissan Sylphy Practical Compact Sedan Product review

Sylphy was born out of the famous Nissan Bluebird. Launched by Nissan in 1959, the Blue Bird is the longest production cycle in Nissan's history and the largest cumulative production volume of the model series, and in the seventies, the Nissan Blue Bird, together with the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic, became the main force for Japanese cars to enter the American market.

In 2000, the 9th generation of Bluejays was named Bluejay· The 10th-generation Bluebird, launched in 2006, still added the SYLPHY logo, becoming the de facto second-generation Sylphy, this car was domestically produced in China by Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Nissan translated the name of SYLPHY as Sylphy. In 2012, Nissan introduced the third-generation Sylphy, but the Bluebird lettering disappeared from the body, and the Bluebird brand was used in a new compact body for the Chinese market only.

In 2015, Sylphy sold 330,000 units, making it the second best-selling sedan in the Chinese market after Lavida.

Sylphy is likely to be the first sedan to be hugely successful in China because of the Internet, and countless statistics show that Sylphy accounts for a very high proportion of Didi and Uber cars in China. There are probably two main reasons for this, the first is that as an operating vehicle that drives hundreds of thousands of kilometers per year, it pays more attention to fuel consumption performance than a family car of 10,000 kilometers per year, and Sylphy's fuel economy has always been well-known, and the second is Sylphy's excellent cost performance, Sylphy is almost the cheapest Japanese car in this class. The choice of chauffeur also gave Chinese passengers an unexpected benefit: they had a very comfortable ride, because the rear comfort level of Sylphy is probably the best in this class, and the car was very quiet, and many passengers slept in the back seat of Sylphy's big sofa.

The Sylphy is a model with very distinct advantages and disadvantages, its advantages are comfortable ride, easy driving, and economical and fuel-efficient, but it has a lot of disadvantages in terms of handling. In pursuit of comfort, the suspension tuning of the Sylphy is very soft, so it feels a little light, and the directional stability on the highway is not good enough, which makes the driver not too confident in its handling, if you really drive it to turn sharp corners, there will indeed be a feeling that the suspension will drift sideways - and the Corolla, which also does not pursue handling, gives people a much more "solid" feeling than it.

Sylphy's CVT gearbox is also thoroughly comfort-oriented, and compared with Toyota and Honda's CVT gearboxes, it lags significantly behind in terms of efficiency. This gearbox is sometimes a little confused in the face of complex operating logic, and Toyota and Honda's CVT can do the same as a traditional automatic transmission, the transmission of power is direct and tight, and the Sylphy CVT feels a little left behind in comparison, of course, it is already close to a generational change.

The previous generation of the Bluebird Sylphy 2.0L was actually the fastest of all the naturally aspirated compact cars at the time, and the acceleration performance far exceeded the same 2.0 displacement Sutar and Focus, and was also faster than the Civic, Mazda3 and Corolla. And this generation of Sylphy seems to have completely abandoned the pursuit of performance, this is a car that is far more comfortable to ride than to drive, and its design may be aimed at families who have no desire to drive from the beginning, and many female drivers who are used to "driving slowly".

In terms of reliability, the reputation of this generation of Sylphy has also declined significantly, and the 1.6L displacement of Sylphy burner oil has been in an uproar, and the reliability performance of Sylphy is also average in the large sample statistics reported by American consumers.

In terms of safety, the Sylphy is absolutely excellent as a family car, and the new Sylphy received the highest safety level TSP for its class in 2013, and after adding an active safety system, it was awarded the TSP in 2015 and 2016.
