The 8th-generation Civic, launched in 2006, was once very popular in the Chinese market, but the 9th-generation Civic is a sunken generation, so the 10th-generation Civic is a facelifted model. In fact, it is an American car designed and developed entirely in the United States for the American market, but with a Honda logo on it. The car was released in the U.S. at the end of 2015, and Dongfeng Honda introduced it to the Chinese market in 2016.
This generation of Civic has two highlights, one is the appearance and the other is the powertrain. Since this generation of Civic was designed by the American department, the style is completely different from the previous Japanese home. It has a fastback design, and the whole styling is sporty, but the workmanship is not flattering, and the seams between the body parts are relatively wide, and there is no sense of refinement at all, which has been done better by both generations of Civic.
This generation of Civic has two engines, one is a 1.5T turbocharged engine (L15B8) and the other is a 1.0T turbo engine (P10A1), both paired with a CVT gearbox. Among the two powertrains, the sales volume is the 1.5T model, 177 horsepower, maximum torque of 220 Nm, and the 0-100 acceleration time can run to 7.08 seconds, second only to Hyundai Festa in 6.78 seconds. In addition, the 1.0T version is a three-cylinder turbocharged engine, and the overall shake suppression and power output do not meet expectations, and the sales volume is only one-tenth of that of the 1.5T model, so I really can't find a reason to recommend it.
While pursuing high power, Honda still attaches great importance to the smoothness of power delivery, this 1.5T engine not only uses smaller turbine blades to avoid the abruptness of turbo intervention, but also still chooses a CVT gearbox to match it, and does not set a simulated gear for it, so the power output can be kept in the most suitable torque range when accelerating, smooth and linear. This kind of smooth linearity is not all advantages, the Civic in the middle of the floor oil, the power response is slow, this kind of influencing factors, including the manufacturer's adjustment of the accelerator pedal stroke, turbo lag or the protection of the CVT gearbox, may cause the power response to be slow. The brake pedal doesn't feel linear enough, which is evident when you first start driving the Civic, and the front of the brake pedal outputs too much braking force, which makes it easy to nod your head when following at low speeds, and you need to get used to it.
The Civic uses a "DPA-EPS variable gear ratio" steering system, which can change the steering ratio in addition to steering speed gain. At low speeds, not only does the steering feel light, but the steering wheel can complete a relatively large steering angle with only a small turn, and at high speeds, the steering wheel not only becomes more "heavy", but also the amplitude of steering needs to increase. This steering system is not only class-leading in terms of technology, but its tuning is also very linear and smooth, making it extremely "handy" in use.
The high-spec model is also equipped with the advanced AHS (Agile Handling Assist) system, which can be understood as an electronic differential for the car, when the car corners, this system will actively apply a slight braking force to the inner wheels of the corner, so as to help the car complete the steering action more smoothly.
However, the Civic has never been a performance car, but a family sedan with sporty characteristics, and more inclined to family comfort. The suspension adjustment is more comfortable, and the filtering of large and small vibrations in daily driving is very good, and it will not retain too much road feeling, and when it comes to corners, you can obviously feel that the suspension is soft, and the roll of the whole body is more obvious.
Although people often criticize Honda's sound insulation, this generation of Civic has greatly improved in terms of noise isolation, especially in terms of ambient noise, which is difficult to affect the cabin. The main source of noise is the tires, and it is more picky on the road surface, on some asphalt rough road surface, tire noise will be more obvious, and on a well-paved road surface, tire noise is not large.
In terms of applicability, the Civic also has a minus point is its full-touch central control system, Honda has spared no effort to promote this system, but its design still has a lot to debatable, such as changing the climate control to touch, although it looks beautiful, but it is actually easy to distract the driver.
The Civic has been a reliable impression for the past decade or so, and it is difficult to find any high-incidence faults in the Civic that is more than ten years old, and the eighth-generation Civic still maintains a high residual value. Ten generations of Civic from self-priming to turbo, has a certain impact on reliability, after the CR-V exposed the "throttle", Dongfeng Honda took the initiative to recall the tenth generation Civic, replace the air conditioning control unit, upgrade the FI-ECU software, and replace the radiator sewer pipe assembly and upgrade the TCU software for models equipped with CVT gearboxes at the same time, from the follow-up point of view, the problem has been basically solved.
