China Railway Corporation Limited is a multi-functional and super-large enterprise group integrating survey and design, construction and installation, real estate development, industrial manufacturing, scientific research consulting, engineering supervision, capital management, financial trust, resource development and foreign trade and economic cooperation, headquartered in Beijing. China Railway Corporation Limited has the special qualification for general contracting of railway engineering construction, the first-class qualification for general contracting of highway engineering construction, the first-class qualification for general contracting of municipal public works construction, the first-class qualification for professional contracting of bridge engineering, tunnel engineering and highway subgrade engineering, and the professional contracting qualification for urban rail transit engineering approved by the Ministry of Construction. In 2000, it passed the quality management system certification and obtained the Royal UKAS certificate. In 2002, it was identified as a high-tech enterprise by Beijing. In 2003, it passed the certification of environmental management system and occupational health and safety management system. The predecessor of China Railway Corporation Limited was the General Engineering and Design Administration of the Ministry of Railways, which was established in March 1950, and later changed to the General Administration of Capital Construction of the Ministry of Railways. In July 1989, the Ministry of Railways abolished the General Administration of Capital Construction and established the China Railway Engineering Corporation. In September 2000, it was "decoupled" from the Ministry of Railways and transferred to the Central Working Committee for Large Enterprises as a whole. In April 2003, it was under the management of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. In November 2006, it became one of the first batch of pilot enterprises with a board of directors of wholly state-owned enterprises. On September 12, 2007, China Railway Engineering Corporation exclusively initiated the establishment of China Railway Corporation Limited, and was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on December 3 and December 7, 2007 respectively. By the end of 2012, the total number of employees was 287813, including 234219 employees and 154528 managers.
