The company's power supply areas are Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan, and it is responsible for the investment, construction, operation and management of the southern regional power grid, the operation of related power transmission and distribution business, and the participation in the investment, construction and operation of related cross-regional power transmission and transformation and interconnection projects; Engaged in power purchase and sales business, responsible for power trading and dispatching; engaged in domestic and foreign investment and financing business; Independently carry out foreign trade circulation operations, international cooperation, foreign project contracting and foreign labor service cooperation.

As of the end of 2015, the total installed capacity of the whole network was 269 million kilowatts (including 137 million kilowatts of thermal power, 109 million kilowatts of hydropower, 10.03 million kilowatts of nuclear power and 12.55 million kilowatts of wind power, accounting for 51%, 40.5%, 3.7% and 4.7% respectively); The substation capacity of 110 kV and above is 790 million kVA, and the total length of transmission lines is 199,000 kilometers. At the end of 2015, the installed capacity and power generation of non-fossil energy accounted for 49% of the whole network, higher than the national average. The hybrid operation of AC and DC of China Southern Power Grid is long-distance, large-capacity, and ultra-high-voltage transmission, with complex safety and stability characteristics, difficult to control, and high technology content. China Southern Power Grid is the first power grid in China to "go global". As the Chinese executive unit of the Greater Mekong Subregion power cooperation determined by the State Council, the company actively implements the "going out" strategy, adheres to the surrounding areas and its main business, and strengthens power cooperation with the countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion, Hong Kong and Macao. By the end of 2015, the company had sent a total of 31.5 billion kWh of electricity to Vietnam, 1 billion kWh to Laos, and 12.5 billion kWh of electricity from Myanmar. In 2015, 25% of Hong Kong's electricity consumption was transmitted to Hong Kong through China Southern Power Grid. Electricity is sent to Macau to account for 90% of its electricity consumption.
